    The First Move

So the new Girls are big enough to go out. Brought the portable broader out of retirement, set up the netting to fence them in, and off they went. The big girls have walked up to the netting to inspect them but they are the Cool Girls and want nothing to do with them, which is what I hoped for...

    Do chicks need toys

I put sticks and twigs in the broader. They like to run between them and perch on them. Also take a disposable 9 by 9 cake tin and fill with play sand and they will start dust baths and play in it. Also training woth meal worms to get them used to people.

    Treats and training

Never thought of it. Not a photogenic person and wasn't sure anyone would find it interesting enough to watch. I may record one just for kicks and see how it comes out

    Treats and training

Week 2 of the new girls and started training today. The big girls all come to the "chook chook chook" call. Got some mealworms from the petstore today and started the chook chook game with the 2 week olds. What a ruckus. 10 girls, 4 mealworms and let the chase begin. A few learned quick that the...

    This is how you know...

This is how you know your a Chicken Dad... when you have a cup of hot water, paper towel, and are picking dried turds off the fuzzy butt baby BEFORE your morning coffee. Inspection of the flock takes precedence of caffeine ingestion :)

TSC chicks keep dying despite ideal conditions

I had horrible experience this year. My first order of Hen's were Roo's. I was able to rehome them as soon as they arrived. I reordered and when I watched the shipping, they were picked up on Monday at 8:30pm and the delivery didn't happen till Thursday at 9AM. I ran to the Post Office as...

    Pretty much finished.

Just a Copper Colored Tin Roof on the Coop and Run. Coop has 2 inch insulation on the ceiling and walls and paneling over that. No Snow, but it was 114 for 3 months this summer and never got over 92 in the coop. Insulation works for both extremes for me :-)
