Fried it with some butter, basil, and garlic for the first one, tasted amazing! Second dinner was fried in coconut oil, slightly overcooked, but still good! :)
one bit of advice: they grow fast. be prepared. also they are messy as all heck, I suggest you have a tray or rack (like a cooling tray for bread) raised up for their water to sit on, or else they will have the soggiest bedding ever
He looks like he might be a hybrid, looks just like my hens, but I assumed all of the males were culled after hatching, unless they were to be sent to a breeding farm.
Make sure her legs and hips are not broken or look misshapen, compare with the other ducklings. she could also have a little sprain of perhaps some bruising of the muscle or bone.
Thank you! I did want to get a dewormer that i could put on their skin or get them to ingest with a syringe, as I would know that they got their dosage, but the only dewormer my feedstore hafd was piperazine 53... :(
I've tried dusting them, but I find that I really cant get the dust under...
I have a flock of nearly 30 and for the past couple of months they've had worms. About a month ago I got some piperazine dihydrochloride 53% and gave the recommended dosage in their water, but just today I found a wormy poop. :( I gave them another dosage and a half this time in their...
Thank you, i was really worried... I have access to some sulfa stuff too, just in case.
Silkie: I wish i would get a refund! :( Doesnt like I will though. Im selling the chicks for 10 - 15 dollars though, when I bought them for 6 each.
Have you not heard of "do not feed your vaccinated chicks medicated feed, as they will cancel eachother out"???????????/
i ordered 3 different colours of silkies, waht I got was "Super Silkies" all white. sent a salty email to where I got them, and they went on about how they were meat...
I got my chicks through what I find is a very unreliable distributor, and I was not told that the chicks were vaccinated against coccidioisis! :( I assumed they were not vaccinated, and had been feeding them all medicated feed for a month and a week, only just learned from my neighbour that...
Roosters are good to have around, they will protect your girls when a predator comes near.. (Known someone whos roo sacrificed while protecting his hens from a bear)
Yes, it is, but chicks starters are very soft when wet, so they dont really need grit. I only give them some extra sand when I give them a solid treat like a berry or some leaves. The chick starter I have actually has some very small grit in it to aid with digestion of the feed.
It used to be, a long time ago. Decades ago. The medicated part was bad for the ducklings, but now the medicated part is amprolium and its not bad for them. You also dont NEED to give them niacin, but probably should just in case, or have some on hand.I have 3 ducklings in with 43 chicks and...
As I said, her foot looks fine! I have picked her up a few times and given in a good look and feel, and it seems fine! How can I tell if there is damage?
One of my hybrid hens will not bear weight on one of her feet! She's between 6 months and a year. Her foot looks fine, but she holds it up and will not let it touch the ground most of the time, and when she does, it bears little to no weight. This has been happening for a week now. She is free...
I used hot water in a mister, you could also get a paper towel wet with hot water and gently dab the water on and around the opening. Be careful, you dont want to drown they chick either...
Yup, have considered it, but theres not all too much need for me to try, as Im quite happy with my set up right now! Also I live in an isolated coastal city (need to take a ferry to get anywhere) and so feed can be much more pricey here.... My girls have plenty of eggshells to snack on too, for...
Just the amount of blood flow to the wattles! In the winter my birds tend to have paler wattles than in the summer, in the summer they tend to be bright red most of the time! The can also change with day/night temp. fluctuations
