    Day 19. Anxiety

Well, my hatch is (mostly) finished. I had 26 good eggs at day 18. Ended up with 21 hatches. Not sure if that's fantastic, but I did open the incubator to move dry babies into the brooder a few times. I still have two call duck eggs in the incubator. I gave it a quick wipeout today, removed...

    Day 19. Anxiety

I am almost on day 22 and there are still a bunch to arrive. The first pip started end of day 19. But there are so many factors to when they hatch. I have some still that haven’t pipped yet. And they all appeared good after handling on day 18. So I am waiting. I have moved a bunch over to the...

    Day 19. Anxiety

I should also mention. This guy took 22 hours from external pip to hatch. I kept thinking I should intervene. I'm glad I sat on my hands!

    Day 19. Anxiety

Two pips now, and movement from one other egg. A few loud chirps. The original pip is making a tiny bit of progress...I'm so worried!!! Plus, the second pip is in the middle of the egg!

    Day 19. Anxiety

I've got one pipped! And chirping. All the others are just sitting there doing nothing. But hey, it's a start. It's one of my Brahmas.

    Day 19. Anxiety

I am on day 19 here too. No movement, no chirping, nothing. The waiting is killing me. I've got 27 eggs in there, waiting to hatch - a variety of breeds...lavender orpingtons, bielefelders, Easter Egger/silkie mixes, brahmas, and blue-laced red wyandottes! I started with 39 - 5 were infertile, 5...

    Incubator Humidity

I think you can remove the red plug for a bit to get the humidity down. Just keep an eye on it.

    Plastic Tote Brooder

I live in Canada too. I use a heating pad to brood my chicks. It's the best. You can check out the infamous thread about it here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/mama-heating-pad-in-the-brooder-picture-heavy-update.956958/ That sounds like a big enough brooder for 2 chicks for 4...

Mama Heating Pad Help - New Chick Mama

You'll know if they're too cold because they'll be loudly complaining! They are nice and cozy in there. Mine always spend a lot of time under the heating pad at the beginning - don't worry they'll be out and running around in no time!

Northern Fowl Mites driving me crazy!

My chickens have been suffering with northern fowl mites since February. I have tried a couple of different things, but they never seem to go away! They are driving me absolutely crazy. What I've been able to do is basically control the infestation, but I can't get rid of it. I've tried giving...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Hi All, Just picked up my first chickens on Sunday! We got 5 RIRs, 2 barred rocks and 3 columbian rocks. We are picking up 4 australorps later this week. So, 14 overall. I have been lurking around here for a while and I'm sooooo thankful I found the MHP thread. I skipped the heat lamp and set...
