I'm not sure if it's ever been brought up on this forum or not but here is an easy way to make a water level indicator. I put these on all of my bucket/nipple waterers but you could apply the same concept to just about anything. The nice thing about this is if you have a solid color bucket and...
I finally got around to doing the final touches to the watering system today. I have 1) Painted the original yellow lid black to help with algae 2) Added a PVC air vent in the lid and put fine mesh screen over the pipe opening so insects can't get in 3) Added a bypass valve with a garden hose...
Anybody having any issues with Cackle Hatchery this year?
We ordered 25 Old English Game Bantams on Jan 1 (the 1st day they open up ordering) with a delivery of Feb 20th. 12 out of 27 chicks died. We called them up and they said they have a policy that if 15 or more die you can get a...
Thanks for the suggestions. I just painted the plastic lid that was yellow to black to help with sunlight penetration for algae. I am going to put a bypass valve on it this weekend so I can drain the container when need be.
I just finished up my watering system on my new/old coop. Coop is 10+ years old. I used this coop at my old house in a different manor and just moved it to the 15 acres we bought. The way I am going to use it now I will chicken wire the entire bottom. I just wanted to post some pics of the...

I have a 9200 (old style- not digital adjustment) and I would definitely upgrade if people start saying the digital adjustment is easier to deal with than the knob.
Well I am glad to say that I have found my way back to this forum after a several year departure. To give you a little brief background information about myself I raised chickens, quail, ducks, and geese on my parents hobby farm from 2005-2010. I was always on this site lurking but never posted...
I haven't hatched in 3 years so I was very excited this go around. Incubator used was an LG w/ fan and auto turner. Eggs came from an ebay seller who threw in 2 duck eggs. Here are a few pics:
And One Week Later...
Eggs are on a turner in an LG incubator with fan.
When I take eggs out of turner days 19-21, the duck eggs will not be getting turned even though they will still need it through day 25.
However, when the chickens hatch the peeps will be scattering the eggs at least until I take them out.
Here's the situation:
-I have 29 chicken eggs in my incubator along with 2 Pekin duck eggs
-I am obviously more concerned with a good chicken hatch since they are the reason I am incubating (Duck eggs were just kind've thrown in there)
-I am on Day 14 with very good candling results from both...
