    Sour crop? [video]

Elsa is a Swedish Flower hen, 10 months old. In the morning, her breast area seems normal, but by day's end it looks as though her crop is very distended. See video crop 1 - morning, and video crop 2 - late afternoon. Note in the second video that her crop is unusually large. The good news is...

    Bald spots under wings

Molly is an Olive Egger, 33 weeks old. She reached point of lay at 24 weeks. When the girls were dust bathing this week, we noticed bald spots under both of Molly's wings (see photo). We have another hen that is being pecked in the tail area (and we are treating her). So, we right away...

    Mysterious Bald Spot - Parasite?

Do vitamin packs cancel effectiveness of medicated feed?

My understanding of medicated feed is that the active ingredient (typically Amprolium) blocks a chick's absorption of thiamin (B1), which causes the cocci protozoa to starve to death. My local feed store sells electrolyte & vitamin packs and guess what they contain? B1! Does this mean that the...

Things You Wish You Would Have Known?

We experienced that, too. My wife had her chickens in a chicken tractor in the yard while cleaning the coop. She heard commotion and "screaming" and turned to see a large blackish/gray bird draped around the tractor, just 20 feet from her. She had a tough time shooing it away. We learned later...

"We have done everything wrong but I don't care." Sounds like you've got the right heart. Does anything else really matter?!
