Good luck with your incubating. I have had my incubator going solid since last May and cannot grow tired of it. I believe it is a passion!
Here's a trick for the hatching phase that I actually have not tried but an older veteran told me: mist your eggs with a spray bottle when the are trying...
Hi Fellow chicken lovers! I'm going full time farming next week. I have three breeds that I hatch, but I can't ship. Can anyone give me some plain old advice about shipping chicks? Thanks in advance!
Whew, that's good. If the % drops a little, that's okay. I just didn't want a total loss. By the way, I had 60 in the hatch tray. 36 have hatched so far, which is a personal record.
So maybe I will unplug the incubator for 9 hours when they are in the hatch tray. Just kiddin'.
It is the other...
Hey, our kiddos "accidentally" unplugged mine to play with an electric car, LOL, and it got down to about 92. It was unplugged for about 9 hours. Luckily it was a very hot day in the nineties. What are my chances of surviving that? Thanks!
I'm sure it does turn back on, but if it were to be off for long enough, you could lose the eggs. It hasn't happened to me yet though, just a possibility.
I actually heard a German say that one time, so I asked if it he said what I thought he said. He laughed and explained that it is almost the...
Congrats! 19 out of 25 isn't bad. Thanks for the German lesson. LOL Das ist ser gut. If you can speak English thank a teacher. If you are speaking English, thank a soldier. Ha, ha. Keep setting that chick up. I've had them pull out of it like that.
Hmmmm. I looked it up. It is a pretty fur piece. If you could buy at least 30 chicks, I could meet you halfway. Maybe somewhere between Dunlap and Monteagle. You live in some pretty country. Tennessee is God's country!
We have about 100 chicks for sale of various ages. The newborns are $3 up to $5 for the pullets.
They are Aracauna and Rhode Island Reds.
I'm having a blast hatching, but we need to sell some. :)
We live in Spring City, TN and I will deliver or meet you if it covers the expense. I haven't...
Well I hit 53%! That's 32 bitties. This is the first batch I've had that they were all identicle. LOL All of our eggs are from "barnyard" chickens. We are having growing pains with all of these chicks. :) That's a good problem.
Hey,
Good luck with your eggs. I always give them three full days to all hatch. Then I put them all in the same coop. The first hatchers can be two days older than the newbies. They will run over them some, but they don't weight anything. It helps them to get up-and-at-'em!
More than about...
Good Morning Everyone!
We have about 60 Rhode Island Red eggs due today. My average hatch rate is only about 40% though. But that is still 25 chicks!
I think I'm messing up when I put them in the hatcher on day 18 or 19. I don't have a candler yet. It is very exciting though. I only started...
I really hate that about the pheasant. I'm not sure what to do for lice. I think some breeds are harder to hatch than others. My wife has Cuckoo Marans, and they hatch like crazy. The lavender orpingtons almost never hatch in the same incubator.
Hey y'all!
I had improved to 30 out of 41 with my last hatch, but this time I backed up to 25 out of 60. I think I know what I can do.
I need to candle them before I put them in the hatcher. They may be drowning when they peep. Anywho, I'm still pretty happy with 25 bitties!
Those are pretty good percentages. My record is 73%. This weekend I hatched 13 out of 60, but that was after only one day after the due date. I usually give them 3 to 4 days. I can hear a lot of eggs chirping still. LOL
