(In the kitchen cooking making German Chocolate Cake)
The caramel failed, Mom.
That's not so bad. See how it looks like runny chicken poo? We pour off some of the oil and it will be perfect!!!
Too many things resemble bird poo.
Ducks, geese and waterfowl are one of my constant water users. Even with 3 waterers, they use more than anyone else. Take one of those flexible black feed tubs, the kind you get at a farm supply and fill that during the day. Only fill in the morning. Ducks and geese need SOME water to eat...
Small metal rod, exposed to wind = heat conduction = frozen nipples (the waterers, not yours!) Not defective, if that's what you're asking.
Can you bring that part of the system in? Or wrap in pool noodles to insulate? It's a constant battle.
Good luck!!
When we lived in RI we had a similar problem... with a lot more birds! Seems that the chickens, ducks and turkeys would all ... well, it's kind of like us... they will stay tucked and cozy in the protected area, out of the elements, as much as possible. Like stickin' by the fire on a cold and...
Umm.. Actually, some kinds of batteries are designed to be fully discharged. I use marine batteries on my e-fence for the horses and we discharge them completely and then power them on a charger.
Conversation with my girlfriend who is a Paramedic and has chicks in the brooder. She is a new chicken addict.
"Can you keep the chicks for me while I work"
"Sure"
this morning - she is dropping off the chicks (she is already at work at the Firehouse)
Her: "I'm gonna put he birds in my car...

Ok, so here is information about our coop and pen.
When I have a picture of the actual coop, finished, I will post it here.
Ok so here we are building the run
and
here
we are building the floor of the coop.
We used part of an old deck that someone had sawed into strips and...
Ok, so count me blind. I had to put it on Book Antiqua, because I like the font, but I also had to put it on 18 pt, cuz I must be getting blind.
Who are we?
We are 4 humans:
My husband serves in the Military (yes, he's in there... He's the boss).
I am a self-employed Stay at Home...
Is her broodiness dependent upon the chicks or her own internal clock? I just put the turkey eggs with her. It was really cute how she nudged the eggs under her and sat looking so happy. I have no idea what will happen. I may come home to abandoned eggs. It was funny how we took her off the...
I am leaving for a week for OH from RI and have someone watching turkey eggs. I thought that they were at 28 days last week, but I guess I screwed that up. I cracked one egg and it had a developing embryo. So, I have a broody cochin, can I put the eggs under her and will it work out? They...
I lost a couple of FR's, one from a knocked over wire "gate" and the other died for unknown reasons. I placed a chicken wire partition between the chicks and the adult chickens to prevent problems. www.purelypoultry.com has FR's, not called that, listed under the meat birds.

I think this is a tri-color.

Ok, he's just pretty. Myself, I would cull all the rest and keep him for reproduction. Anyone have success with "bringing up baby" (them laying eggs and then you letting them rear them)?
I...
Chickapooh, that is not a dumb question. A Freedom Ranger is a meat production bird originally from Europe crossed specifically to be able to be pasture fed and grown. They are smaller than the Cornish Cross, they don't have genetic issues, they don't develop heart problems from growing too...
coonriver,
Having raised 11 CX's to slaughter size (lost the lot to coyotes a week before 10 week old slaughter) and having started on the FR's, I would say the FR's are much more efficient. I put my CX's out to pasture and they just NEEDED to be fed from a feeder all the time. They...
