Thanks for the info. Yeah I would want to avoid the vets, but that's purely because I have a lot of mistrust at the way they dealt with one of my dogs. I didn't know about wormer for chickens. I'll have to have a look for some of that.

Ok, today got myself hydrogen peroxide 3% and betadine antiseptic solution. I would like to find a broad spectrum antibiotic to keep. I have seen Tylan mentioned in posts that people buy from the feedstore but here in the UK it needs to be prescribed by a vet. What alternative has anyone used?

Hi all, I would have started a separate thread but I wanted to specifically ask the 'uk'ers, what do you keep in the first aid box? I have been reading some threads about being prepared for a chicken emergency with a basic kit and I think it's a good idea. I'd rather have something on hand and...

Yeah, I would prefer them to go to a use rather than be culled now but one of the fellas at the allotment has offered to do it if needed. Just thought I would give them a chance first. Even if they will be eaten in 6months+. I dare not post them on any selling sites incase they get used for dog...

    What breed is this chicken???

Thanks, all of the yellowy white ones have more prominent pinky combs at the moment so therefore they probably all are roosters but just wondering if they looked liked sexlinks

    What breed is this chicken???

I thought I would post this (whilst I was cleaning out and could get a few pictures) in the hope someone could help me identify the chicks. I got given 7 from a school hatch project with no info. They are almost 3 weeks old. There are 3 yellowy white and 4 yellowy brown. Any ideas?

Sick chicken, swollen eye, mouth discharge

Thanks for the info. When I saw him today I mentioned maybe a vet for post mortem but he had already incinerated the carcass. I printed out the thread articles on respiratory diseases for him. I am now a little worried if his did have anything contagious then mine could be within distance.

Sick chicken, swollen eye, mouth discharge

Please read this carefully, this chicken in question was not mine, but belonged to an older guy in one of the allotments. He culled it today. He is not on the internet but asked me if I could share this photo, if you would be able to give feedback. First of all it was a 12 week light sussex. 5...

Can you put a couple of seeds in each one under the target so it accidentally gets pressed? Once it happens a few times each one should learn

    Chicken names

I have named 16 of my brown hens after relatives and friends and they all have numbered leg rings so even if you can't instantly differentiate by markings you can see their number. When my nephews come over they are seeing where Carol and Malcolm are(granny and grandad) and they also love that...

    Hi, I'm a newbie

I got given 7x 2 week old chicks yesterday. I let them have an hour outside because it was warm. It was lovely watching them listen to all of the new sounds, although they did freeze still when a dog barked somewhere nearby.

    Hanging feeders

It's fine for the strain. It's a pretty solid converted stable but I would guess that the roof struts are at least 10ft high so was worried more chain = more swing. I'll give it a go with 1 and see how it goes. Thanks for the info

    Hanging feeders

By doing that do they not still swing?

    Does my hen need stitches??

If you can't push the skin together it will most likley be too tight to suture. This will cause strain on the wound and will open again If there was enough loose skin it would be possible but because there is a lot of movement in that area it's not a good idea.
