Hi
We bought 5 laying hens from a local farmer. 2 days later decided to get one more. On introduction she was getting picked on more than I’ve experienced. 2 days later I noticed mucous nose, lethargy, and some “knotted” dirty feathers. Like she needs a bath. I don’t want to give her a bath as I...
I can't remember exactly what i used.... something that someone recommended on here before. It was essential oils i know that... and I knew it probably wouldn't work as well as a product.
My next question is, wouldn't they die without having a host to eat from?
Do you think its safe to get...
hi there
last summer we had a few hens and they unfortunately got mites. The coop I discovered at night was full of them! We got the girls out into a new area and then eventually gave the hens away when I couldn't get a handle on the mites naturally. I made an assumption that all the mites...
Are these mites?
2 weeks ago we had a chicken die... then another a couple days later. I noticed these bugs on the last one. I removed remaining hens from the coop, cleaned them and they have survived. The coop still has mites or whatever these are 2 weeks later. I was hoping without the...
If anyone could give me an idea of what happened and also what I should do with my remaining 5 birds.
Last night my 1.5 year old barred rock, couldn't make the jump into the coop so I picked her up and put her in. Next morning, she came out with the others but then stayed in the pen right...
I posted a week ago and the consensus was most likely pullets but here they are a week older (approx 8 wks?). There is one small cockerel in the back ground of one of the pics that I will be exchanging this week because we cannot have roosters here. So I want to make sure the others are...
They are from a local (in Ontario) organic farm. We bought them with the friendly agreement that we can bring back any cockerels for pullets. I assumed the farmer would have helped in sexing but he wasn't sure and I didn't do my research about the colours. My guess is #2 and 3 are 6-7 weeks??
I know there are many threads about the same thing and few people that said to message them about genders. But I'm posting this hopefully to get a few educated responses, as we need to switch any possible cockerels to pullets asap. Thanks so much in advance.

The 2 on top are the ones in the back on the second photo. The front one, I just posted and so far sounds like a roo. What about the other two? Will have to exchange the little roo so far.
