Diary of a Crossbeak: Support for Special Needs Chickens and their Keepers

This is a great idea!! I'm getting a bucket tomorrow and trying this. Esther is eating well, but most of the crumble winds up all over the coop and outside the coop. She's such a sloppy eater lol

BO, approximately 7 weeks old. Hen or roo?

Lol mine are just little poop machines I have them in the house in a ginormous dog cage because the heat here has been up over 100 every day. After 5 minutes outside, they just lay there and pant. I'm away for 8-10 hours a day because of work, so I try to clean their cage before I leave in...

BO, approximately 7 weeks old. Hen or roo?

I hope you guys are right. She was the first to get her comb and she's all attitude. Btw- I got those pics before night cage cleaning time. Please don't think I keep my chickens all filthy like that on a regular basis. I pull poop out twice a day!

BO, approximately 7 weeks old. Hen or roo?

This is Sally. Sally was supposed to be a hen. She's had her comb for about four weeks now, and today I noticed slight red where her wattles will eventually be. She's very pushy, and hates to be touched or picked up, despite all the love she's been given since she was a chick. I beg her...

Aww Big hugs. I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine the sadness. That just makes me want to go grab Esther out of the cage and snuggle her. She's already such a princess lol.

Diary of a Crossbeak: Support for Special Needs Chickens and their Keepers

I actually talked to my vet yesterday. His friend, the avian specialist in San Diego, says he does the surgery on parrots and other birds. Apparently, chickens don't have the same blood supply to their bones, or something to that effect, so it's prognostically no good in Esther's case. The...

Diary of a Crossbeak: Support for Special Needs Chickens and their Keepers

I'm so happy to see this thread. I would love to hear any opnion out there. I have a crossbeak named Esther; she's absolutely my darling. I found her on a fluke. So, I'd ordered three chicks on line, an EE and two black laced golden Wyandottes, and one of the wyandottes showed up dead...

    Greetings and Salutations!!

Hey everyone, I'm Jennefer, and I'm here to learn as much as possible. I'm a new chicken mom... I have five hens (I hope), three of them are about seven weeks old (a buff Orpington, an EE, and an I'm not sure what breed with scissor beak) and two who are 3-4 weeks old (an EE and a black laced...
