    Here's a pic from my own flock, the male is on the left and the female on the right. They're a little older than yours but you can see how much the color varies. I have another even lighter male, but he wasn't co-operating like these two were.

    That looks like a pullet. For barred rocks, the roosters dot on the head extends down onto the neck (usually) and the female's spot will be smaller and more defined as adot.     Got him at Tractor Supply in Harrisonburg, VA. He was the only brown chick they had in a straight run bin. Thank you for answering :).
