Thoughts on an Ummmm Special Needs Chicken

We have a flock of Easter Eggers .... the little one is Pip. Short for Pipsqueak. She was always sitting down as a chick, and is certainly smaller than the rest. I know chickens are not known for their excess intelligence, but Pip seems astounding behind that curve. Other than not "catching...

I agree coffeekittie - they are so much more attractive than I had thought. Maybe by viewing them online, you don't get to see them individually?

FLORIDA - Please list your City here That Allows Chickens!

Jacksonville said they really don't care unless there is a problem with neighbors, but he suggested no roosters, noting that roosters are not needed for eggs. (Since he offered that on his own, I figure that misconception is still out there).

    Let's be honest folks!!!

We didn't have an issue going overbudget, but it was exhaustively planned and executed. We used a sturdy wood fence for support on the backside and to block some of the sound from our neighbors on that side. We did know of someone who put baby chicks into a playpen in the backyard, upset...

    Chicken SPa! Buff Orpingtons

So this morning, we were able to do things we really wanted to do with our pets. It was cold and wet, so we brought our Silver Laced Wyandottes and Buff Orptingtons inside for a spa session. Thanks to paying attention to the posts here, we were able to find which breed really fit our family of...

Do you worry about biosecurity with wild birds?

Any thoughts on mosquitos? I heard that our area has test chickens that they draw blood to check for mosquito carried diseases (like West nile) to smple for the human population .... not a lot of humans volunteering for random blood draws.

2nd night out in the coop, and now a storm is coming.... !

Tee hee hee ... after telling the children that the chickies were fine outside, and NO we weren't going to go check on them, Hubs and I snuck out at 9:30 to see how they were doing. We were week and after losing one last year, are a little paranoid about losing one this year.

    Weed killer?

Could you rig a temporary pen in the area you want decimated? I find my chickens bruttaly maul just about any plant. If they don't like it, they just rip it apart and leave it for dead.

2nd night out in the coop, and now a storm is coming.... !

Hmm. We are in Florida and we were concerned keeping them any longer in the garage would over heat them. So they are out at 3 weeks ... well, 4 weeks. But, I don't know that we have any roaming coyotes ... just a declawed tailless cat from next door.
