    biosecurity after gapeworm

I hope you're planning on moving out your chickens before you salt. Salt will kill them quicker than gapeworms.

I saw on the news a few days ago that a group of Mennonites went down to New Orleans after Katrina and are still going building houses for the people down there. Yes, I admire them a lot. We've been quite friendly with a few especially the ones who work with the chickens. You've got good...

Quote: I like them to be almost ready to lay. That's what I liked about getting them from the Amish in the Spring - I've had them actually lay an egg on the way home. They did have some young Easter Eggers left in March. I may go back next weekend and see if they're still there - they'd be...

Quote: Do you ever sell pullets ready to start laying? I'd love to add a couple of Delewares to my mix, but don't want to try to raise chicks. Went to sell at Amish farm in March, but by the time we got there they had a sorry lot left.

Greenback got hit pretty hard, just south of Maryville. We didn't get much - spurts of hard rain, then sun, then rain, then sun. Flashes and booms around 9:30, then when the lights flickered, we went to bed. Told the dog to wake us if there was any tornados coming.

Those little bantam eggs are so cute to dye for Easter. I can't make the Newport show - that's the first day of our Farmers' Market - my Saturdays will be tied up until noon until Thanksgiving. Lori, maybe we could do another Sat. afternoon when the weather is less uncertain.

So this is where all the Tennessee people got to. Welcome to all newcomers. WeGotChickens - we need to plan another meet-up. All you Knoxville people. Just heard today you can now get the permits to keep those chickens you've been hiding behind the bushes. 6 hens, no roosters.

Yes you need a permit unless you're selling under the radar. Basically, you have to have a refrigerator to store the eggs other than your kitchen refrigerator. They should be washed in a designated place other than your kitchen sink. Can't re-use egg cartons, and cartons must have your name &...

Leah, are you coming to the Farmers Market meeting Sunday? There's a couple there that bought some sheep for butchering from our cheese maker. I don't know if they butchered it themselves or had it butchered, but we can find out.

Chicken Fruit - I used to work in Knoxville and I drove all over town during lunch. I always went to the post office on Broadway. My daughter lives about a block from it. I hate to say it, but I dislike the clerks in any post office. There could be a line backed up for a mile and if it was...
