Bald spots on head not regrowing feathers

Is it similar to this stuff? I was gonna buy some of that tonight, but if BluKote is better I'll go with that. https://www.amazon.com/Rooster-Booster-Pick-More-4-Ounce/dp/B00E9RKPD2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1492041234&sr=8-4&keywords=blukote P.S. I grew up in NW Ohio... O-H-I-O. :)

Bald spots on head not regrowing feathers

I've been raising 2 chicks and one of them was slightly injured when we first got her (I'm a sucker for the under-chicken) so the other one pecked at her head. We have since stopped the pecking, but the bald spots aren't growing back in. It's been weeks now, maybe 4? Do some chickens just have...

Ameraucanas not perching (in run, they DO perch in their roost)

I guess my semantics are off. I thought "roost" specifically referred to their sleeping area, "perch" was the thing being stood upon, and "run" is the entire area outside their coop..? The current ones have only been in place for about a week, so yes it would make sense if they were hesitant...

Ameraucanas not perching (in run, they DO perch in their roost)

Thank you for your replies! Figures, the day after I post this (been meaning to ask for a while now), they finally perch outside! On a slanted perch, which also answers that question. Here's my video proof: https://video.nest.com/clip/367ba021bdc04efb966b64a2765cc6a7.mp4 So it just took...

Ameraucanas not perching (in run, they DO perch in their roost)

Brief context: I have 5 rescued Ameraucanas, we've had them since November and this is my first foray into having chickens. I thought they all loved perching in trees, etc. but mine will NOT perch outside their roost. I've tried various branches (we live in the forest), different heights, etc...

Newbie here: worried my Ameraucanas may have pox or frostbite

    1) What type of bird, age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) All 5 are Ameraucanas, approx. 2.5 yrs old, not sure about weight, maybe around 3 lbs? 2) What is the behavior, exactly. Dark black/brownish spots on the combs of 3 of the 5 hens. One has a...

    Help identifying this Ameraucana vocalization?

Wow, you guys reply FAST on here! Thanks so much, I was hoping it was a happy sound. Just didn't sound like one to me. Like I said, I'm a newbie. :)

    Help identifying this Ameraucana vocalization?

I'm brand new to having chickens, we've only had our 5 Ameraucanas (rescued) for about a month now. In the mornings, right after I let them out, Chickpea (the one in the video) does this vocalization really loudly. The other ones do it a little bit, but not as often and not nearly as loud. I'm...

First time chicken owners preparing for Pac NW rainy season. Anyone ever use a "party tent/canopy" f

Thanks everyone for their replies! I've been having second (and third) thoughts about the party canopy/tent idea. I wasn't super impressed by the reviews on Amazon, or about having a metal-based framed structure out in the rain full-time, or about how it would look (my wife has the job of...

Hello from a first-time chicken owner in San Juan Island, Washington (Pacific Northwest)

Thank you! The hens we're rescuing aren't laying much anymore, which is why the current owner doesn't want to keep them. If they do lay eggs though, we'll feed them back to the hens so they can get back some of the nutrients they lost. Plus we're only starting with 4 hens, so I don't think we'll...

Hello from a first-time chicken owner in San Juan Island, Washington (Pacific Northwest)

Agreed! Our enclosure will be completely closed to the dogs and cats. The cats already stay inside 100% of the time, the dogs will stay in the backyard, and the chicken's enclosure is on the side of the house. I do hope to eventually let the chickens hang out in the backyard a bit, but the dogs...

First time chicken owners preparing for Pac NW rainy season. Anyone ever use a "party tent/canopy" f

First off-- this is my first post (aside from my intro), so hi everyone. :) We've never had chickens before and have spent all summer preparing for them. I'm ecstatic, to say the least, having chickens has been a dream of mine for YEARS. I live with my wife in NW Washington state, the beloved...

Hello from a first-time chicken owner in San Juan Island, Washington (Pacific Northwest)

Hello! My whole life I've been an animal lover, then 11 years ago I went vegan and learned so much about chickens-- what they endure in factory farms, etc. and the chicken obsession began. The more I learned, the more I loved them. I've always wanted to rescue some of my own, but was never in...
