Ah ok, we have raccoons around our farm too. Do they actually break open glass windows?

That's a really good idea for the roosts, hinges so I can just swing it up to clean under. THANKS!

Yep we will be getting a new steel door and also all new windows. All of the windows are higher than 3 feet. There is a chicken door that also needs some work. Curious about window height? Is it better for them to be higher, or lower, than 3 feet?

Large coop fixer-upper - could use some advise.

I'm pretty sure it is structurally sound, the cows use it as a scratching post. We did find a few dead mice while cleaning it out. What do you recommend for keeping them at bay? The ventilation is actually pretty good. There are windows on all four walls. They do need to be replaced...

Some progress pictures, we got the inside cleaned out today, also painted it. The roof was completed yesterday.

Yeah we do a lot of sweet corn for us and to give away. Same with pumpkins, they take up a lot of space. Jealous of your greenhouse. We would like to build one some day.

Oh it is strong here, but if we are inside the coop it won't be an issue. We probably won't get to it today though. Mostly cleaning it out though.

I'm glad tin is ok, we finished the roof yesterday. It does have the original roof, insulation and shingles underneath it so hopefully that muffles some sound. Today we are cleaning it out and possibly doing some painting inside if the wind doesn't blow us away.

Yes we have a very large garden, close to 1/3 an acre. It was mostly corn and pumpkins this year.

There was about an inch of snow to wake up to this morning but it melted around 1pm. And good idea, I should put the cattle to work.

Ha ha peek a moo:lol: They're so spoiled with sugar cubes they follow us around. Yesterday I almost had two calves join me in the coop. Not a good or safe idea.

Oh ok gotcha on the pump. We have had about 5 good winters, pretty mild snow-wise compared to previous years. It still get cold though.

We don't plan to get a rooster with the hens, at least not yet ;) I didn't mention it, but there are 4 vents in the ceiling, 1 in each corner Good thought on the heater, just a bit worried about fire. We have a few years worth of straw for the cows so straw it will be. Thanks for the input :D

It gets awfully cold here -20 during winter so I think we're going to need windows. So you wouldn't bother painting? Good to know. :)

Right now we are just planning on 10-20 hens. Not planning to get a rooster at this time. I know it will be a lot of space for 10-20 hens, but I will just be starting out and don't want to get in over my head too soon. That room of to the side is a good storage area for feed I think. The...

What kind of bedding would you suggest? We have a lot of straw but read pine chips would be better.
