Hello all. I have had my flock for a few years now. I started with full grown girls. I added two turkeys this year, soon to be a repurposed holiday favorite, lol. Next spring, I am going to try California quail. Its been a dream of mine to repopulate the area with them. Any advice is welcome.
Yes, chickens are social creatures. It is not fair to isolate them. Chickens are a very real link between reptiles and mammals. Social, omnivorous, creatures of the forest floor. Treat them as such.

Donna, roosters have two purposes, to squawk when predator's are near.. And to get put in the pot as soon as they attack you. I have known some gentle roosters, and some mean ones. Keep the gentle ones to breed, and eat the rest.
