I would keep her there if you want her to hatch the eggs. If you try to move her, she might not go back on the eggs and finish the job. You only have a few days left anyways so I would keep her there. Once the chicks hatch, she will come out and you can put her and the babies back in the coop.
I used to have a few frizzles from Murray McMurray, I can't remember if their feathers took longer to come in. She is definelty a red frizzle. I would give her a few more weeks or even a month and see what her feathers do.
As long as shes eating and drinking fine she will be okay and if there's no signs of blood. I had a hen that chipped her break off too, it doesn't grow back. To prevent anymore beak chips, check your flock regularly for signs of cracking beaks, and try not to feed them on the sidewalk/concrete...
Chickens should not be classified as game birds. Game birds are pheasants, turkey, quail to name a few.
The breed Modern Game Birds or Old English Game birds are also not "game birds" technically. Just fancy show chickens so you should be allowed to have those too.
okay thanks! I put them in the tub for about 15 minutes this morning and they loved it. Got them right underneath the heat lamp after their swim. The good little duckies even stayed right under the lamp and preened their fluff.
I've seen some video of people letting their incubated ducklings go in water and swim. I've also been told though not to do that because they don't have their mother's oil so they will get too cold and die. I've always stayed on the safe side with my ducks and never let them into swimming water...
More then likely, your ducks will come back to their coop or stay near your property. I've heard of ducks and chickens wondering into their neighbors yards, but they won't run away permanently. There's always a risk of predators picking off your flock, but that's the chance you take with...
I had an orpington mother who had about 12 chicks at the time when she was attacked by a coyote. The coyote carried her off the property and we were sure she was not going to survive. About five hours later, she came running back into the yard, entirely tailless calling for her chicks and...
Ohh, okay. That's probably right. I hope my blue mille fleurs turn out true blue mille fleur.
(Not my picture, just using it as a reference)
I think this is a good representative of the blue mille fleur variation.
I'm putting in a order to blue mille fleurs today. I'm pretty sure that the blue in this variation is like most blue variations, it varies from light to dark blue. The quality of the breeding cock and hens the breeders have will depend on how your chicks turn out. If they are truly pure-bred...
I want to make my own incubators, and I was thinking about making one out of plywood. The plan is to make a plywood box that has a door in the front so I can put the eggs in and a hole on the side of the top for the heat lamp. Has anyone ever made an incubator out of a wooden box, and does it...
Okay, so I live in Iowa, grackles are not uncommon here. But just now today I look outside and there are literally hundreds if not thousands of grackles in the trees right in my yard! My chickens were outside and didn't seem too bothered by them. I step outside and record them because it was so...
Yes, he is! I ordered two of them and ended up with one roo and a hen, but my hen turned out looking more white then golden neck. I was hoping to breed them, but she doesn't look golden necked at all. I'm ordering some more golden necks this year, so hopefully I will get a good breeding hen for him!
Okay, I've watched a video of a hatchery hatching eggs and they had the eggs in a carton upright. But from all the articles I've read, they say to incubate on the side, which makes sense because that's how broody hens hatch. I just wanted to know if it's okay to hatch eggs upright because it...
I'm thinking about including Yokohamas and Russian Orlafs in my order tomorrow, because I think they are very pretty and I've never heard of them before. Does anyone on here know anything about them or has ever raised them? I breed chickens, and don't really care if they are great layers, just...
