I ultimately decided to cull. It seemed like she had gone a day or two with it stuck, and she had three eggs in there (different sizes). I tried for hours, but she was in a lot of pain, so I put her down and ate quail for dinner.
I have a prolapsed quail, and I have been working on her for about two hours now. I soaked her in epsom bath, and tried to massage the egg out. It looks like she has two vents, though, and i'm kind of worried. Any advice?
I need some help (yes it's me again). I got 50 chickens today, they are all a day old, but five of them are having issues. They twitch and fall over, and can barely stand. These are the sick ones, but the rest are normal. They walk around, eat and drink like normal, so they are not too warm or...
Yes, they are all the same age, at the peak of production I was getting about two dozen eggs per day, half of them, but it slowed down, and now stopped. I had lights in there, but I took them out yesterday since they are not laying, and it isn't cost-effective to use electricity. I also was told...
PD-Riverman, I don't think she has frizzle in her, but I am not sure. I do have two frizzle roosters, though
SunHwaKwon, I feed my chickens a mix of layer pellets mixed with corn, along with any fruits and vegetable I get in bulk. They all have a mix of sand and oyster shell, this particular...
I feed my chickens a mix of layer pellets and whole corn, along with any vegetables I get in bulk.
Her abdomen feels squishy, I don't think she has an egg in there... It doesn't quite feel watery, but still soft.
Her poop looks normal, i think because all of the poop in my communal coop looks...
My flock of fifty Plymouth rock hens are not laying eggs anymore! They are only about a year old, but were laying a week ago.
They are well-fed, I don't think they are over-fed though. They all seem healthy.
Is this just a seasonal thing or am I doing something wrong?
Any advise would be...
One of my Wyandottes has had messed up feathers for a good three months now.
She is smaller than most of my chickens, but is still fairly healthy. At first, I thought she was just molting, but as time went on, I started to get worried.
About two months ago, I separated her from the other...
I woke up this morning and tended to the chickens per usual. When I went to the coop, I noticed one of my wyandotte hens was not walking like she normally does. Her backside sags and she prefers to sit down.
She CAN technically walk, but it seems uncomfortable. She was not isolating herself from...
We decided to skip the step of dissecting her. We didn't even want to see what her insides might have been & didn't want to have to make a mess. We buried her by our compost out back and her nutrients will be used in the spring to plant fodder for the other birds. We made sure not to waste a...
So, I just culled my hen with Ascites and lice. It was for the best and she went painlessly
I am still unsure if I can eat her or feed her to my animals. She had a pretty bad bubble and I'm pretty sure it's from heart & liver failure (I live at a high elevation where that is usually the...
Thank you, I think her Ascites is from organ failure. I will pick up some Sevin dust and try that. This is the first major issue that has arisen with any of my chickens, so I am kind of frazzled. Thanks again.
So, yesterday, I noticed that one of my Wyandotte hens had a poopy bum (she's my largest and prettiest). When I pulled her out from my coop of 55 others, I noticed a large bulb near her vent that was squishy, which I knew was Ascites right away. Around her vent, she also has obvious lice egg...
