I've had many fail to thrive and it's heartbreaking. I want him to live so bad because he's so much like a chick I used to have and that chick didn't make it past 5 days
He's 6 days old, I'm not sure about the temperature. I have a big enough brooder so that they can decide where the temperatures best and I will move the heat lamp around accordingly. I'm feeding them chick starter which ended up being too big for them to eat, so I have to crush it up some. He's...
I'm afraid something has gone terribly wrong with my new baby, Elvis. I came home not long ago and found him propped up against the brooder. I came back out a bit later and then he was on his back on the ground. I had helped him get on his feet the first time so I know he wasn't like that for...
I'm not sure how he's different. I just thought maybe they noticed something I didn't in her. It's only around the eye. I've paid close attention to making sure there's no gunk in her eye because I don't want her to have to live half blind. I've never heard of blukote before though. Is it like...
I have six chicks, and an illness. At first I thought the other chicks were pecking Captain's eye, but in not thinking that's the case anymore. Now I'm thinking that they would peck him because he's different. My little Orlaff started getting picked on after a few days of being alive, and now...
What can I do if he won't eat. He drinks still but no eating unless he eats when I'm not home. My mom isn't too inclined to wrap his foot up either, will he be ok without it
He's the only one. I'm thinking about moving him to a separate set up so he can rest. I fear for the worst since in my experience, when an animal is ready to give up living, you can't save it. That's almost always the case for me. You can see when they've given up, but I don't think he has just yet
I have six 2 week old chicks and so far I've got two problems. One I have already gotten advice for but this new problem started a couple days ago. The tiniest of my Orlaff chicks is now limping. I left it to observe for a day but she seems to have given up now. She isn't interested in much but...
I still can only hear one other chick peeping. It's still fairly faint though. I heard a chick scratching on the inside of an egg; it sounded like it came from the one who keeps peeping
Also if I do end up having to help, how do I help exactly. Just pull off the shell near the pip? Some didn't even break membrane before the stopped, should I leave the membrane intact?
Since I went to sleep last night I've only had one zip further. The only one out is doing great but the others just decided to stop. It's been 11 1/2 hours since I got home and saw the pip holes. I'm getting worried. What time do I need to help and is it possible to help them all if I'm quick...
The one who tried to unzip the long way made it out. No movement from any others yet though. I forgot to put a cloth on the bottom for them to stand on. Will they be ok until I can let them out? God I messed up on stupid stuff
I'm trying to hatch 6 eggs in an incubator right now, and some are doing fine, attempting to zip out the egg, but a couple... aren't doing so hot... almost all my eggs are Wyandotte eggs, with the exception of one Old English egg.
UNZIPPING THE LONG WAY:
The Old English is trying to unzip...
Ok thank you. And thanks for the link I'll check it out. Not sure my parents will get medicine for her though. They never do even though I've lost plenty of animals because of that
