Aggression of Cochin, Sebright, Japanese and Old English Game Bantam Roosters

I ordered some Red Cochin sexed bantams from Cackle a couple of years ago. I ended up with 2 hens and 2 roosters. One of the roosters was very aggressive. I tried him in with the LF and he got along with them but was so aggressive toward people he had to go. The remaining one is very nice.

Will a hen go broody again?

We have several breeds but the only one that has gone broody is the bantam Cochin. Last year we tried letting her hatch a very few chicks but no success. She kept going broody though and had to be broke of it a few times. May let her try again this year. Learned some from last year's failure.

Here are a couple pics of our nice Cochin rooster Rusty. He is living with three LF hens and four 7 week old pullets and he is behaving wonderfully. Wish his brother would be so nice.

    Hen or rooster destroyed chick?

That is good advice. I will keep it in mind. I have her "broke" from her broodiness for now. I would rather not hatch chicks. If I want more I would prefer sexed bantams to avoid having to deal with unwanted tipsters.

    Introducting myself.

Hello, I am from Central Nebraska and have had chickens for 5 years. We did have them on the farm when I was growing up but they were mostly white Leghorns and I was not too fond of them. When we decided to get chickens we started with Rhode Island Reds and Buff Orpingtons. Last year I wanted...

    Hen or rooster destroyed chick?

I have a bantam Cochin hen that went broody about 4 weeks ago. I ended up letting her have two eggs and gave her some "fake eggs" to keep her happy. She was in the coop with the rooster and three other bantams. When about 23 days had gone by I thought I would take away the eggs and try to...
