I have an opportunity to maybe purchase a Marsh Rolex incubator that's local to me. I tried searching the forums and did a brief internet search, but didn't find much. Any reviews out there for this particular brand? I currently have a Styrofoam bator now (Hovabator) and would love to invest...
No, not externally and I'm pretty sure not internally either.
My other hatches have been with (supposedly) fresher, but shipped eggs. Some from eBay and some from MPC.
I have successfully hatched in this incubator before without removing the plug. The instructions say to leave the plug in place unless water droplets form on the windows so now I'm confused.
I left the vent plug in :/ Is a circulated fan bator with a hole above the fan so i figured I was drawing enough air. Think not enough oxygen maybe? I did not turn the FCBM eggs and they sat for the whole 7 days!! I completely forgot about that! They were anywhere from 10-14 days old when...
Yes, I set them 7 days later than the turkeys to have a same-day hatch. One chick hatched on day 20 and the 2nd on day 21. Both were removed on day 22 which is when I candled and float tested the remaining eggs and found them all dead. None had pipped the outside but had pipped the inner...
I have the Hovabator 1602N I think it is, with auto turner. I started with 12 FCBM eggs and 8 heritage turkeys. All local. I had 6 FCBM make it to lockdown and 3 turkeys. I had a few late quitters and some clears with both.
My temp ran a steady 100F and humidity 25-35%. At lockdown...
FYI: wood stove pellets and horse stall pellets are the exact same thing! I use them interchangeably in my horse stalls all the time. They do expand when wet and fluff into sawdust...that's how you use them. I'm not familiar with "pet" pellets, but when I Google them, they're exactly the...
Yes it's bare plastic and then tightly wrapped to the rack with several layers of plastic wrap. This was a prototype of sorts and Blooie pointed out to me that chicks are fond of picking the plastic wrap. And yes, large washers on top were definitely an afterthought.
Here are some pics from...
Looks that way! Any progress? When they pip internally they often start cheeping. Also be careful if holding the egg upside down as you don't want fluids leaking down into the air sack or disorient the chick.
This week I had 7 out of 28 shipped eggs hatch :( lots of clears, a few blood rings, a few quitters, and 5 who died around day 19/20. I forgotto check the marked shells but I'm almost positive none of the MPC eggs hatched. They all had wonky air cells and porous shells. Oh well.
Today I...
A couple of pics of the electric hen in my daughter's kindy class (we hatched these babies). 2 and 3 days old.
I took them straight from the incubator and right under the MHP and they took right to it. Now I wish I had a larger one for the ones I'm brooding at home.
One of the chicks we hatched in my daughter's kindy class. Hatched on Tuesday and Wednesday...went in to check on them today and saw this little blue one's mangled toes on one foot. Anything I should do for it? It's getting around ok, no issues. Seems to be thriving. Pretty little blue...
This is so cool, I've seen the Japanese videos of the chicken eggs...but i think they completely removed the egg shell if I'm not mistaken. I have a couple questions though! How will you hatch the duckling? Will you wait until day 28 and just remove the plastic or let it pip and work itself...
