Can you MAKE a hen go BROODY?

Did you ever try and did it work?

    Bantam Rhode Island Red Thread

I have a question about broodiness of RIRB. As I've stated previously they are 3 years old, but I've only had them a couple of months now. I'd LOVE to hatch some of their eggs and prefer a broody hen to do it. How likely is it for one of them to go broody? Is there any way to "help" them go...

    Can Chickens Eat Alfalfa Hay?

I bought some alfalfa seeds to plant in a certain area of my yard, since it is mostly dirt right now. I thought it would be a good idea to have some fresh alfalfa, along with a few different types of clover (white, red & yellow flower varieties). I have already planted the red & white clover...

Got the DE and it worked! I put it out yesterday and I was shocked to see all 3 of my Reds we're in it. Yay! Now I know they like the DE so I will keep it on hand. Thanks for advice!

Thanks! I'm waiting on some chicks to be big enough to add to my flock. I'm hoping they will be right size in a week or two, then I can get some more

I do not have it in a container, just the corner of their run. I will try a container to see if they like that better. Yes, I have some DE and will mix that with sand and ash to see if they will use it. Thanks for the advice!

    "Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I'm trying not to learn the hard way, but seems I am learning that way. Guess every situation is different. Had a not so fun experience last night during the bad weather. Our newly build run was flooding, so me & husband had to get out and rescue the chicks, then try to get things to drain...

    Bantam Rhode Island Red Thread

Hello! I'm new to chickens and I've got 3 Rhode Island Red Bantams. I've had them for 5 days now and I've gotten 5 eggs from the 2 hens. All 3 seem happy and healthy. I have noticed that they do not dust bathe. I didn't know if that was a breed thing or something else. Any advice is appreciated...

Hi. I'm new to chickens. Just got a trio of Rhode Island Red Bantams yesterday, from a guy looking to get rid of them, one rooster and two hens 3 years old. This was after I'd bought 6 chicks from a friend, that are now 3 weeks old. So not only am I raising chicks for the first time, but I have...
