I have a Black Copper Maran Pullet who has just started laying about 3 weeks ago. I have a hen that just went broody and I wanna know am I ok to give her the BCM eggs to hatch. I know the BCM pullet has been mounted so I know the eggs are fertile. Shes maybe 26 weeks old give or take
I dont have any pictures, but I found 2 large worms in one of my chickens poop. I have all ages in my flock and over 30 birds so there is no way to tell who has it.
How do I go about treating the whole flock? This is my first time dealing with this in three years and I want to stop it now...
So I have 3 day old polish chicks and I'm trying to get an idea of what genders I have. I couldn't find anything online about not being able to use the wing feathers, but I found a post saying you can determine gender by their poofs?!?!?! Just curious to see what yalls options are. If I go by...
We dont name all of our chickens but a few do have names,
Jolene (buff orp)
Sweet pea (lavender orp)
Goose (black copper maran roo)
Alfalfa (EE)
Then we have Becky, veronica, tiffany, ginger, Rachel, Elsa
And our brahma, we call her "big booty Judy"
That's what babies do!!!! Before u know it they will be testing their wing feather and be jumping up on the edge of the brooder box to say hello, enjoy them while their little :love:wee
Give them a chance, maybe gi e her a few more of your eggs to sit on so after 10 day you can candle them and pull any that haven't developed, it's pretty obvious when there's no babies and then let nature take its course from there.
I put 15 under my broody and I picked up 6 eggs from a local...
Getting some hatching eggs, I have a cuckoo maran, so about the size of a barred rock whos broody.
How many eggs can your bigger birds sit on at once?? 14.....16.....18???
I wanna give them all the best chance so I dont wanna risk giving her too many
Thanks!!!!!:jumpy:jumpy
I just went through this. I separated mine (I had two go broody at the same time) from my understanding, once an egg is kept above a certain temperature for over 24 hours the baby starts to develop. If u want her to hatch out babies we pulled the eggs she was on for a few days to make sure...
Thats what I'm thinking, there is no trace of them and I know when they get separated the babies scream, so after I search the yard and I dont hear a chick screaming I can only assume a hawk or other bird of prey got them.
I am new to raising babies outside with a momma hen. I understand everything loves to eat baby chicks. They are 3 weeks old and I figured the moms would be better at keeping them safe. At what age do you let the moms out with the babies? I've lost 4 babies and I'm so frustrated. They are in...
Well just as it says in my title, here is our situation.
She has been on a clutch of eggs since last Thursday. I have her in an area where I can monitor her food and water and watch for her droppings to keep her area clean. I have yet to find one in her area. Yet I have another broody who...
Love the orpingtons, I would say you have a cockeral too! If the two are hatch mates and his waddles are already that big along with his comb then I say it's a pretty good chance you got a boy. Best of luck with your new flock!
Thank you, he came from a loving home and looks to be very well kept, he was the low man on the pecking order of 9 other roosters at this Farm. I've checked him for mites and he seems clean, I have him in a large dog crate on my patio away from my girls for now, I was thinking about dusting him...
