Yes, I’m giving him poultry cell...I think he’s a little better! He is starting to tiptoe around his enclosure rather than collapsing all the time. He doesn’t seem to have a spinal injury or anything else visibly wrong. I’ll keep at it and hope we don’t lose him.
Hookfang is a 6 month old Easter egger. He was a “pullet” from the bin at Tractor Supply, LOL. 4 weeks ago, he suddenly couldn’t walk. He was perfectly fine one day, then the next day he was hobbling around like an old man. We can’t find any injuries or swelling. His eyes, ears, wings, and...
Thank you! I raised the lamp up a bit. I'll rig it higher still tomorrow. The back of the enclosure is beneath a roof and is about 75 degrees, so I moved the food and water there. They sleep there sometimes, and sometimes come soak up some heat. So far, everyone else seems okay!
temp is 90 under the light, which is about 18" up. Away from light is 78 degrees. Sides are chicken wire and they are in our house. They don't seem hot... they lie down with wings up right under the light.
No, and she seemed fine, too. Energetic, eating/drinking, no pasty butt or odd poop. They are starting to lay down with one wing open - is that normal?
One of our 2.5 week-old chicks died! Inexplicably. It looks like she just went to sleep. Should I be worried for the rest? (They just went into a bigger brooder and have a habit of jumping fast - I wonder if she whacked into the wall? She was pressed right up to it, head turned back as if asleep.)
I'm so sorry I missed your post! Life got busy and I forgot to check in. I'm sorry for your loss and hope the other chicks are okay! I keep thinking that my kids will be devastated if anything happens to any of our chicks. :(
OMG thank you for so much advice! I was a little afraid of hurting the poor thing. It took a lot of soaking, and some cuddle time in a fluffy towel, but I think my wee girl is okay now. :) :) :) This is definitely on my list of "things I never thought I'd be doing"! Of course, I also said "no...
Hi, everyone! We are brand new at this - literally brought the chicks home yesterday - and one has pretty bad pasty butt that I can't get off!!! Any suggestions?
