My African gander hates shoes and pant legs. I love him, but boy is it irritating to try and work when you have a goose angrily chewing on your sneakers.
(I know he does it because he's a mean little gander, but I can't take him seriously)
Do any of you have geese that hate weird things too? LOL
They're all about the same size. The ducklings have weight on the gosling, but he's larger overall.
If he isn't getting along with the ducks by tonight, I'm going to find him a buddy.
(Also, the new kid doesn't seem too hot on swimming? I plunked him in the tub to clean off the feed-store...
In my experience, "weeder" geese turn into "eat the whole garden and lawn" geese, lol, so I'd be careful!
I've owned African geese, which were an actual riot, though a bit loud, and currently have a Toulouse Sebastopol cross who is really very sweet and quiet. I only let her into the garden...
I can't really keep them in with the ducklings for very long. Once one notices them, the other will and they both jump the poor kid :( I can usually have them together for two minute intervals before the ducklings figure it out.
I only just got the gosling today, so I might be jumping the...
My two two-week-old ducklings very strongly would like to evict my new gosling (who is, at a guess, maybe a week?) they both get the angry neck wiggle going and strike at the poor new kid :( can't tell if it's jealousy, or maybe just being territorial because "nO THAT IS MY MOM NOT YOURS!"
Will...
My two week old Harlequin drake has super thin down. When he's wet, you can see clear through to his skin, whereas his sister you can't. She has very nice thick down. The little drake is also bald on his chest and neck! (The down on his chest used to be all weird and curly)
I clean their...
I have a young goose, about two years old. They're a mix of Toulouse and Sebastopol. For the longest time, I thought they were a gander, but I'm honestly not too sure anymore.
Thoughts?
EDIT: okay, never mind! She had a nest hidden in my goat pen with four eggs! Wish I had a boyfriend for her.
What a cute bunch!
Okay, good to know my setup is actually decent. I very badly want to make sure they have a good safe place to live :) The bedroom addition's a pretty nifty idea. I'm not sure if I have the room in my cage, but I might try it out :p
And thanks for the book rec. I'll for sure...
I recently had to move my two week-old Welsh Harlequin babies into a new brood bin, as one of my mother's dogs got into the last one and ate two of my four 'lings :'(
So, I grabbed an old cage from back when I had rats, gave it a good scrub down, and rehomed my kids in it.
The cage is pretty...
I hatched out some Welsh Harlequin ducklings a few days ago, and just noticed that my little drake has weird feathers! The feathers on his chest are all wiggly and wavey, almost like he has bedhead.
I was wondering if any of you have every seen anything like this?? He's taken baths already...
I was given some Welsh Harlequin eggs a while back. All were proven to be viable, much to my delight. 6/6 made it to lockdown, but I've had a LOT of problems, mostly stemming from my super awful incubator >:u
There isn't a window in the silly thing, so I have to keep breaking lockdown to check...
I very dimly remember my parents getting turkey chicks when I was very little, and that the poor little guys died during their first rain. Apparently, they looked up at the rain and drowned...?
Is this... a common thing??? I think about it often, and it just sort of has always puzzled me.
I have a sweet boy named Yeezma (he is half Sebastopol, half Toulouse) and in the fall, his mate Kronk was mauled and killed by a dog. He has my two drakes for company, but they're a bit rude to him now that they're adults. He also hangs around the goats, but... well, they're goats, y'know? I...
I have been trying to grow lavender for the last few years, but just can't seem to figure it out! I have tried from seeds and cuttings, starting inside and outside, and have yet to have any luck.
Any advice?
