Depending on temperature, they should be fine with lots of straw that they can snuggle into. They are old enough to huddle up when chilled and have no problems. I am waiting until 6 weeks of age and i'm in NH near the coast.. just to be safe
My chicks did the exact same things. Just give grit (spread it all over the brooder) around 2 weeks of age. Also, provide a log for them to begin roosting on. Mine LOVED it. Then around 3-4 weeks they can have a roosting bar.
I used warm water and a Q-Tip and rubbed the area until everything loosened up. Then I grabbed with my fingers and it slid right off. Although they hate it, a few feathers off the butt is better than being dead.
this happened to one of my black sex links as well. I took and eyedropper and some warm sugar water, gently opened there beak, and squirted it in. Do it every so often (we did it twice). It worked and she began eating and drinking all by herself and today she is big and strong (only 6 weeks but...).
Just wondering what I should be aware of whenever I let my chickens out. Is it good to? I will regardless just wondering about some ways to get them back into the coop, will they wander farm etc.
Thanks and chicken on!
We have a buff orpington rooster that should've been a hen but obviously wasn't. We don't want to have the noise in the early morning or throughout the day. Any ideas on how to get rid of him?
That should be fine. I have a coop similar to Tractor Supply coops. Just stuff lots of straw/shavings into there home and maybe invest in some sort of insulation..
They could be molting, not sure when that starts but normally there egg production stops for a little bit of time as they need lots of protein to grow new feathers. Also, depending on where you are, they need a certain amount of daylight to have high egg production (14 Hours), however, its April...
Try getting an eye dropper or something similar, then get warm water and put some sugar in it. Open her beak and squirt it in and do that every so often to give her a boost......hopefully!! It worked for our day old chick that wasn't doing good at all, now she is FINE.
Hi All,
I have 8 chicks all about 6 weeks old and with them ready to go into coop, what are some things you do to keep your flock safe from predators. I plan on getting better locks, some motion activated lights that only work at night, and secure chicken wire wherever its needed. PLEASE give...
