I'll be taking him to the (avian) vet tomorrow. Hopefully they can help. He's still eating and drinking just fine but minimal growth and his legs are beyond fixing at home. Wish us luck!
Pics coming soon, I promise! Been super busy with everything lately. Just started a new job on top of rescuing these guys.
After doing some more reading I'm realizing that this little guy has slipped tendons. The splay legged part seems to be coming together even without the straw-rubberband...
He's got a little makeshift sling from a Chinese soup to-go container and a ripped up shirt. I'll put the epsom salt in it below him where he can't reach it but his feet with be in it. Don't need or want more poop than I already have haha
Very much! I will try this routine. Just massaged both his feet and opened them up eventually. I can't find a way to get his feet to STAY open or flat though. Bandaging them is proving to be near impossible. Some inflamed knuckles and joints for sure. Hopefully doing all this will help. There's...
Made the rubberband/straw leg brace, but it seems like it's keeping his legs more behind him rather than him being able to get them under him. Not sure whether to put it back on or to try to come up with some modified version of it.
Help!
That's exactly what I was thinking off. He's gonna absolutely HATE it but I think cutting up a shirt and at least putting him in it while I feed/water him would do a world of good. Not to mention make the whole process easier... lol
Thank you guys so much! I ordered brewers yeast off Amazon and it should be here tomorrow morning. Hopefully that helps too.
The little guy seems dead set on using his legs today. Finally doesn't seem to hate being in the water as much too. The water therapy sessions haven't been longer than...
My duckling has the same issue. He was cockeyed in the egg and his toes are curled into a "fist" and his legs splay backwards. He's healthy otherwise and I'm taking extra care of him and doing a little water therapy without the others and working with him as far as walking on dry land. Trying...
Thank you for his video! Just watched it and that's very very similar to what mines foot is doing. Only on both. Never thought of the bouncy ball to help train the foot. I'll have to try cutting a piece of cork to fit his foot. Maybe that'll help progress it to the point where laying it flat is...
Thank you all for the help! I grabbed some feed I saw recommended (versus just non-med chick starter) for the niacin content. Tried to find a pure niacin supplement at TSC but they didn't have what I was looking for. Instead settled with a vitamin and electrolyte powder supplement.
I don't...
Thank you! I checked out that site and literally everything I could find last night immediately after he hatched. I only found maybe one or two references to this specific issue.
Worth noting, he was malpositioned in the shell. Not completely backwards, but not where he should be. Guessing...
I had an egg hatch yesterday and the little guy was a bit behind the others. His feet are balled up into "fists" and his legs are straight out behind him. He can't walk, just scoot by pushing forward with his legs. He's active and eating and drinking. Honestly, I wasn't sure he would make it...
In Boone County! Trying to find hatching eggs since the last two batches of shipped eggs have been full of duds and the ones that do start to develop end up being quitters.
