    Mystery Rooster

I have a rooster who is a cross but I cant figure out what he may be crossed with. His mom was sold to me as a brown leghorn. I dont think she was a brown leghorn. 1. She laid brown eggs (the other one laid white eggs) and 2. She had a poof on top of her head. I think she was a crested cream...

    Age to Butcher Cornish X

Strange how things work out. I had a chick that was 11 weeks old out in the run. I thought it had gotten too cold and so i brought inside to the grow out brooder. and hour later it wasn't doing well. So I figured, well I could do my first cull and butcher on a bird that was clearly not going to...

    Age to Butcher Cornish X

I am getting my first set of cornish X in on Thursday. I have read you can start to butcher the birds around week 3 but I was wondering if they were any reasonable size at that point? I am not wanting to go the full 8ish weeks since that would be a bit too big for my personal needs. I was...

    Odd chick out

These were hatched. All but this one coincides with my order from Meyer. I had two of my own eggs in there. They were tiny light brown eggs. I don't have Rhode Island reds in my flock. It looks red in the second pictures but you can really see the grey on it's wings in the first picture. I...

    Odd chick out

ETA: Better pictures I recieved black sumatras, blue andalusians, white Cochins, partridge rocks, and partridge Cochins. There were two suspected Mille Fleur d'Uccles from my own flock in there. This little one is an odd man out. Any ideas? No feathered feet, yellow beak and legs and light...

    Mystery Chick

Meyer Hatchery. I had a lot of chicks ordered in multiple shipments and a lot of "adopt me," and assortments. I lost a lot of chicks recently to a weasel attack. This is one that I was wondering what kind of breed it is.

    Mystery Chick

I have this chick, among others, that I do not know its breed. This one is so pretty that I was wondering what it will become? Its down is light yellow, legs are medium yellow, and the wings are bluish black/grey and white.

Question about removing chicks from incubator

i had a malpositioned one and a slightly shrink wrapped one. I saved the slight shrink-wrap (it was dry on its wings/back but everywhere else was still very moist. The malpositioned one had its head over the wing looking away from the air cell.

Question about removing chicks from incubator

I ended up putting a wet paper towel in there about 30 min ahead of time. It rose the humidity up quite a bit. I then got the fluffed littles out (there were two not ready just yet so I left them in there). When I replaced the top the humidity stayed at 50% and went to 60% within a minute. I got...

Question about removing chicks from incubator

I had most of my bantams hatch on Day 20 and now we are 24 hours later and A LOT of my standards haven't pipped yet but some actually have started. I know its bad to open the incubator with pips and they can survive 48 hours but one standard just hatched and they pecked at him quite a lot. I was...

Incubating mixed eggs- Standard and Bantam

I read that bantams may hatch as early as Day 19. When should I put the eggs in lockdown? I set them in the morning of March 16

    How old are these ducklings?

Mine actually have longer feathers then that on the tips of their wings about 3/4in. They aren't as white though. I love them all, my husband just loves ducks so he doesn't care what breed they are lol.

    How old are these ducklings?

Yup, they have 2 Tupperware deep dishes so they can do just that. Yeah I thought they may be a bit older then 2 weeks. Is it normal to have a redder band on their wings? It may be just skin under the feathers, they weren't being so cooperative.

    How old are these ducklings?

I got these ducklings at TSC a week ago. She said they were a week older then the other ducklings in the tank. I have a sneaky suspicion these ducklings are a bit older then 2 weeks... They have feathers growing on their wings and they are absolutely massive. I know they are pekins. Yes they...

    Pasty Butt Advice ?!

Milk soaked on a paper towel will get your oil off. Then rub with water. Milk binds with oil, think about oil from hot peppers in your throat, you drink milk not water because water makes it spread worse. Just clean the milk off after you do it with some water so it doesn't smell.

Where’s the money!? Chicks? Eggs? Pullets?

I sell my eggs to a store, 1.50 for medium to x-large, the 1.00 for small-peewee. I am raising chicks and hatching eggs for selling as pullets to neighbors who have asked me for some. The more the word gets round the more people approach me. Once they figured out I had incubators or ducks man oh...

    Candling DARK eggs

    Very hairline cracked egg

Should I cull a bantam egg (its a partridge cochin bantam) that I received in the mail. I didn't notice at the time but it has multiple crack spots with hairline crack going to them. Is it savable (there is a little chickie in there growing like nothing is happening)? If so what is the best...

    Incubators Anonymous

I have two incubators running already. My addiction is very new. I had 4 non-starters in the first that was on day 7 so I put 4 new ones in there along with 42 in the other incubator. I figured if I had non-starters in there I would just migrate the 4 over whenever there was space lol. Mad...

    Candling DARK eggs

When do you make a verdict on dark eggs? I am on Day 7 and to be honest on either side of the egg I can't see any veins in the eggs. I can't even see the air cell from the smaller side but I can see it if I shine the light on the fat end. I don't flip the eggs I just shine it from the top down...
