I don't see anything flying out of her beak. We did the stealth check for mites this morning by shining a flashlight on her bottom in a dark room. I held her while Mom checked. She saw a few black specks, but nothing moving. Shouldn't they be moving?Nothing under her wings. Her ears looked fine...
I have a silkie pullet who was doing something similar. Just didn't seem to be able to walk without falling over. Eating well, pooping fine, alert.... but couldn't walk. I isolated her and after a few days of multivitamins, her mobility has improved dramatically. She is shaking her head a lot...
Thanks! I am going to have to do some googling and see if there are videos on checking ear canals because I have no idea what I am doing when it comes to that. LOL. Do you think I should give her the antibiotics when they get here or hold off on that?
It is so easy to be paranoid. So many things can go wrong! I have a silkie who has been acting funny for days and another silkie that was just egg-bound. I'm paranoid, too! It sounds like everything is okay with your flock. They tend to be followers, lol. If one decided to go in, they all might...
No rooster? Sometimes my hens will return to the run when the rooster issues a warning. We have hawks in the area and he keeps out an eye for his ladies. Maybe even without a rooster, yours sense something amiss? Winter is a bad time for predators because they tend to be hungrier than usual.
I have a 9 month old silkie pullet named Luna. About a week ago, when my mom let the flock out of the coop for the day, she noticed Luna was off balance, not walking well, and shaking her head a lot. I had a scare with her a couple of days before this when I made a terrible decision in trying to...
RoostersAreAwesome, I love that you have one named Lupin! All of my silkies are named after Harry Potter characters except one. :D
I have Snape, Neville, Buckbeak, and Fang as roosters (or cockerels, since they are not old enough to be roosters yet, as I just learned!). Dumbledora, Harry...
I'm hoping that my 2 silkie roos will end up being okay with the 5 silkie pullets. There were a couple of days last week when I thought they had turned on each other, but they have settled down again. There is still some feather pulling going on towards each other and the hens, but not much...
I have two silkie roos that have started to turn on each other, and are being aggressive with the silkie pullets. There are 7 total - 2 roosters and 5 pullets. All are 4 1/2 months old and have grown up together.
I have a much larger coop for another flock that is a mix, but is mostly silkies...
I have the most gorgeous white silkie rooster that I am looking to rehome. I have 3 coops/flocks and 4 roosters and just not enough space to have more than 1 rooster per coop. I tried making one of my coops a rooster-only flock for 2 of them, but they turned on each other immediately and scared...
Hi everyone, I am a new poster to BYC. This is a duplicate post from the Introduce Yourself after it was suggested I post here, too, since I live in VA.
I have lurked for over a year and finally made the leap to joining because I have a sick chicken and need advice. I posted about her in the...
Hi everyone, I am a new poster to BYC. I have lurked for over a year and finally made the leap to joining because I have a sick chicken and need advice. I posted about her in the Diseases thread.
As for me, I started keeping chickens in May of 2016. I have 3 separate flocks.
Flock 1 has 3...
Hi, this will be long so I can get all the info out. Please bear with me.
I have a 4 1/2 month old silkie pullet that started acting oddly around the end of June. I did some research and realized she had all the symptoms of a sour crop. I tried some at homeopathic remedies with little luck, and...
