I candled last night on day 18 because I was preparing my broody for lockdown.... And I saw an internal pip on my bantam silkie eggs. I want to know if any have externally pipped, but I don't know the protocol for broody hens. What is everyone else's experience with this?
I have some broody hens sitting on some eggs in the nest box of my Eglu Cube. Has anyone had any experience with hatching chicks inside of an Eglu? Any advice would be appreciated :)
Hello,
I am toying with the idea of sticking my eglu cube on the side of my house where there is 7 feet between my garage wall and a block wall. I can obviously add a gate to get into the "run area" (enclosing all 4 sides) Do any of you have ideas or experience on how to enclose the top of my...
Hello, I hatched 3 silkie chicks. I got their shells DNA sex tested and two of them were Roos. They turned 9 weeks this week and one started crowing. Because my city doesn't allow roos, I had to find home for them and another hen (guaranteed to be female, so I wouldn't have to go through...
I hatched three 6 week old silkie chicks and I just got the DNA sex results back. Two of them are Roos. I have a wonderful home for them to go to, but that leaves my one pullet completely alone. I found a 10 month old silkie hen as a companion. Would it work to combine the two now? Or should I...
I am building a 4x4 elevated coop with run underneath that has a sloped roof for water to run down to the backside of the coop (not onto the run.) I have a plywood top that I am mounting to the frame of th coop (that the corrugated metal roofing will then attach to.) Before I am going to screw...
I am making a 3x3 raised coop with an attached run. I have purchased composite siding for the walls and I am wondering how to go about building an "access door" for me to clean the coop out. My options are:
1. Mount the siding horizontally and cut out the shape of the door and add hinges...
I am building a coop and think I made the floor opening too small. When the ramp is at an acceptable/doable angle for the chickens to climb up from the run to the coop, the clearance is only 7 inches. What type of clearance do bantam silkies need?
If 7 inches is not enough, what would be...
First time coop builder here. I am closing off the coop with siding panels. The panels are pre-primed on the outside and are exposed composite on the other. Should I prime and paint the composite side or will it be fine because it is the interior part of the coop?
Any input will help. Thanks :)
I am thinking about getting this coop off of eBay and modifying it (adding a wire floor, adding an extra water proof seal, maybe some asphalt roofing and locked metal hardware for the doors)
It would be for a pair (maybe trio) of bantam silkies. What is everyone's thoughts...
I am interested in an Eglu Classic or Go. I can either pickup any Southern CA or would pay for the shipment. Ad states $100 price because it was asking for a dollar figure, but I will pay more for one based on wear and tear and for the shipping costs. Contact me if you have one to sell.
I see two separate dark spots move separate from one another in the egg in question, while the other eggs I am incubating have only one. This is the best picture I could get. What are everyone's thoughts on this? I am on Day 11.
So I have my incubator on my kitchen counter... And my golden retriever knocked my incubator into the kitchen sink. It caused one egg's fat end of the shell to completely fall off (like half of the fat end shell is completely gone!) all that is left is the membrane (which is conpletely in tact)...
