    Eye problems.. any ideas?

I researched the forums, but my baby doesn't have the same symptoms as the other with the bubbly eyes. Only symptoms are the bubbly eyes and the swollen area. She's not acting any different in any other areas and her eye isn't swollen shut either. She's normal as can be other than the foam...

What the heck is doing this?

Possibly. Our storage shed is right next to the coop though, and we keep dog food and the chicken feed in there as well. Wouldn't a rat go into the shed and eat the dog food too? Also, the hole is a good 4-5 inches in diameter. Would a rat dig that big of a hole?

What the heck is doing this?

I have been noticing holes around the edges of my coop run lately. As I have a small dog that loves birds, I figured it was him digging into the coop while the girls were inside their box. Today, I find this: This was after I hoed dirt over it. It was a perfectly formed tunnel into my run area...

My chickens don't like their coop :( please help

the nest box is going to be an outside box instead of inside the coop like it was. It's going on the side in the picture, with the vent. My babies are only about 2 months old right now, so I figure we have a couple of months before they start laying to worry about getting it done.

My chickens don't like their coop :( please help

those roosts aren't there anymore. We took them out because previously I was told they were too small. There are now two roosts, about 14-15 inches high, 2 inches wide and about 3 feet long each.

My chickens don't like their coop :( please help

There is a roof vent. the corrugated plastic was 4 inches off the top of the hardware cloth at the high point, and 2 inches in the middle so it slanted for rain to drain off.. so virtually the whole top of the box was a vent for the air. And it was white plastic to reflect heat. Here is one of...

My chickens don't like their coop :( please help

So I built a coop for my chickens. It's is 5x4x5 inside. Roosts are about 14 inches off the ground, 2 inches across. There were two vents along two of the walls, about 24 inches by 4 inches wide and the entire top of the coop was wired with corrugated plastic arched over it for more ventilation...

    roost height?

What height should the roost be for 1 month old chickens? My babies are moving into their permanent coop tomorrow, and the adult roosts are 14 inches from the ground, which will be 11 inches once the bedding is on the floor. How high should the roosts be for my 1 month olds?

    Chicks and roosting

My chicks are 3 weeks old now (yay!) and going through their gawky phase as their feathers fill in. I put in a dowel for them to roost on so they wouldn't be laying in poop all the time, getting their pretty new feathers all dirty, but only one, maybe two use it. Is this normal? Will they all...

Is it possible I might lose this chick? :(

I have a chick that I received on Thursday, so they are 5 days old. She has been getting poop stuck on her bottom, so I've been cleaning her off as gently as I can with warm water and paper towels. I just cleaned her again, and while I was cleaning her bottom, she was fast asleep. Even through...

    Almost finished coop

I had planned on 7 chickens, but they will only be in the coop at night. We got 11 "packing peanuts" that I will be trying to rehome, so hopefully our number will stay with the 7, but who knows. I didn't think about the linoluem, but will be traveling back out the homedepot to get that. Thanks...

    Almost finished coop

Here are pics of my almost finished chicken coop. The chicks are still too young for it, but I'm one of those mothers that has everything done months before the baby gets here. lol This is the front. The entire front lifts for easy clean up. I wanted to have a pull out tray to clean up messes...

come on...they work hard!!!....So Let's See your "Farm Dog" pics!!!

Here's mine. Keri suggested I post him. He's a bird dog, he will chase down the mourning doves that land to scratch and if he can catch them, he will eat them. Which is why I was suprised to find him brooding. lol. He won't leave the brooder, if the chicks go outside for some fresh air, he...

Got my chicks... and some questions

Well, I'm assuming the "extras" are males because they weren't ordered but added in for comfort and warmth from Ideal. I'll be glad if they are hens but if not, they have to go Here are pics of the "daddy" he's growling right now at the other dog that is about 10 feet away from the brooder. I...

Got my chicks... and some questions

Thanks everyone. They are spread out on the bottom, and I have the heat lamp towards the side since it felt really warm in there to me. They do follow the light if I point it directly at the bottom of the brooder, but otherwise they are all just laying indirectly underneath it. I change the...

Got my chicks... and some questions

Here are the same pics I put over on the "What breed are they" board. I ordered 2 Wyandottes, 2 Yokohama, 3 Ameraucana (which I have not been told will be EE and not true Ameraucana). I don't think I ended up with what I ordered as I have 4 chipmunk looking chicks (which were said to be 1 SL...

Got my chicks... and some questions

I posted a "What breed are they", but now I have a couple of questions... How often will the chicks huddle together and sleep? they are all huddling under the lights, and all sleeping at the same time. I have 18 chicks. Is this normal, or is there something wrong? Also, when they are more...

    New and New Peeps!

So in other words, I didn't get what I ordered even though they marked them as sent on the invoice, correct? Man, that's a disappointment. I was looking forward to my Yokohamas.

    New and New Peeps!

Thanks for the welcome. I love them already, and I'm dreading when the "free" chicks turn out to be roos and I have to get rid of my new babies Another interesting thing... I have 2 poodles, one is a toy (he's deformed and has legs as long as a miniature poodle) and a mini. The toy has taken...
