I have a day old chick that cannot seem to get her legs under her to stand up, she is healthy otherwise. I cannot feel a deformity or see one, but she can't move around, just flutters her wings trying to get up. Is there anything i can do to help her?
Ok, in my own defense i have got to state this was my first wnter with chickens! Anyways the story goes that i had a few bantams that decided to go broody at the wrong time of the year...November. At the encouragement of my unknowing family i decided to let them go....well i got one lone chick...
Hi everyone
Well after our first year raising chickens, we are of course addicted and are now planning quite a bit more expansion (him with his meat birds and me with my layers and bantam loveys ) What i need are suggestions for my new coop......i was given a beautiful run, very sturdy...
Hi, just wondering if i need to put a grit feeder in my coop for winter feeding? My flock gets starter/grower crumbles, cracked corn and occasionally i feed them scrambled cooked eggs with their shells included. Is grit necessary or does the grit they got from free-ranging during the good...
OK, here is the situation...have discovered mites on my birds, unfortunately i have some that have already been compromised and have lost 2 in 2 days, the first i believe just got too weak, the 2nd developed pneumonia and i had to put her down. I have dusted each one and seperated the flock so...
Last week 2 of my hens started laying eggs, a Golden Comet and a Red cochin bantam, have been getting 2 eggs a day since!! When i brought them in this morning they were still warm! I LOVE MY HENS!!
I have had my flock on medicated started now for quite some time. I know when they get to laying age that they need layer pellets. The oldest birds are ready to start laying and i did get my first egg today, so it is time to change feed, but how long does the medication take to get out of...
I have both a variety of bantams and standard girls, and i have multiple roo's of various ages, i need to get rid of some of them but i am having a hard time deciding which ones. There are 2 silver penciled cochin roos, 1 red cochin roo, 1 black mottled cochin roo, and a mille fleur d'uccle...
Have 2 handsome OEGB cockerels for someone who can give them a good home. They are 4 months old and very friendly, both are held frequently. Please do not press buy now, but pm me instead. I do not ship but would be willing to meet you within a reasonable distance.
I have a 2 & 1/2 month old standard blue cochin, she is in a mixed flock right now, and my bantam cochin roo's who are 4 months old where seen trying to mate her along with other hens that were their hatchmates. Will this hurt her, and why are the roo's doing this, when none of my hens are...

This is my own fault.....i have eggs in the incubator on day 17, i received a batch of bantams on friday which is when i must have done it. I thought i had unplugged the light by the bator when i plugged in the heat lamp for the chicks, instead i unplugged the turner in the bator so they have...
Hi, this is officially hatch day for me, however i had 3 chicks make it out yesterday, 1 today and have 2 more that have pipped. I am being urged by DH and DD to remove the chicks, but don't think this would be wise, am worried about losing too much humidity and shrink wrapping those that still...

Sooo.......well made it to lockdown, i had my cut down egg carton ready, placed eggs in carton but didn't think until afterwards that i have heard about laying them on their side. Ummm, uhoh, i didn't do that i placed them in the carton just as they were in the turner, is this going to cause...
Hi, I'm hoping i can get some advice. I have a red cochin bantam, unsure if it's a roo or a alpha hen, but i have caught her picking on the feathers of others, and today she had ahold of my older silkie, needless to say i had a long talk with her while she was hanging upside down. She has made...
