Curious what is wrong with this egg :)

My 1 year old Easter Egger laid her first egg after the winter but it came out a little funny. I think it’s just a strange dud egg but does anybody know what this actually is? I’m not worried but just really curious on what happened. But if there is something I should worry about please tell me...

Hen w/ swollen foot and lump

Hello! My two year old Partridge Rock is currently suffering from a swollen foot and a bump on her foot. I noticed this a while ago and checked her feet for bumblefoot but there was no scab. There’s still no scab to indicate bumblefoot. Just recently I’ve noticed it’s given her problems while...

Chicken has open wound and flap of loose skin on neck

I walk outside to get the girls water and I notice my Easter egger has a strip of skin flapping on her neck. I have no clue how it happened; my best guess is she got caught on something. She’s acting completely normal; not lethargic and she’s drinking and eating fine. Even running away when I...

How to stop pecking on chicks head

One of my polish chicks has been being pecked on the head by the other chicks. The other polish isn't being pecked. How do I get them to stop pecking her head? Is Blu Kote safe for chicks? I also want to see if ya'll agree that this is just a bruise on her head. Sorry for the bad photo I can get...

    One side of face swollen

One of my chickens has one side of her face swollen. There's no discharge by her eyes or nose. I'm suspecting it's a sinus issue. How should I treat her?

    Chicken is slow

Our black white created polish has been acting slow, even drunk. She'll move slowly and drink slowly. She isn't eating her normal feed but was eating blueberries no problem. I gave her some sav-a-chick and she was drinking that no problem. None of the other girls are showing the same symptoms...

    Integrating bantams

I've been looking at bantams to be my spring chicks this year but my concern is that integrating them into an established flock of 10 standard sized chickens will not be pretty. There is plenty of room in my coop and I free range (still debating letting bantams free-range). I have 2 that are...

    Should I be concerned?

I let the chickens out and I notice Marcie has something on her butt. I looks like dirt has dried onto her feathers. I attached a picture of poop and it appears green. I shook her bottom a little bit and nothing fell off. She's acting fine, walking around and pecking and runs when I come...

    Chicken standing on one leg

I just want to confirm that a chicken standing on one leg is a temperature thing, and not something I should really be worried about. I’ve observed some of mine doing that; Minnie, my red sex link, and Millie, my barred rock. It’s not bumblefoot, if that’s a concern cause I just checked. Thanks!!

Chickens doesn't like to stray from the coop

My Buckeye (Nannie) hates to go far from the coop. Every once and awhile she'll venture out a little bit and then run back. She likes the woods and will go out far in them. Is she just a cautious chicken? Thanks!

    How to kill mosquito larvae?

Mosquito larvae has been in my chickens water recently. I changed it yesterday and when I came back out to put more water in, there were already mosquito larvae? Will mosquito dunks/bites work or will that be toxic to the chickens. What are other ways to kill them once and for all? Thanks!

How do dove chicks learn to fly?

A dove has built her nest in a tree right outside the kitchen window so we always get to her. I’m pretty sure at least one egg has hatched because I’ve seen her feeding it. Well anyways, I’m wondering when a baby dove learns to fly will they fall out of the nest and stay on the ground for a...

    Chicks LOVE hair

My chicks are seven weeks old (eight weeks old Monday) and love to try and eat my hair. It all started back in the brooder days when I’d reach in there my hair would fall down and they’d peck at it. Now, when I go out in the run and sit down they enjoy eating my hair. They’ve started actually...

What breed? Asking for a friend

My friend recently got chickens. She says the red one is a Rhode island red. I'm not sure. The black one looks like a BSL but she said it layed an egg similar to an Easter egger. And the one that looks like an Easter Egger its egg's are white. Now I know Easter eggers don't always lay colored...

    Suspected cocci?

My five week old chicks have been sleepy lately. Just napping or laying down in the middle of the day. Whenever I walk out there they run over and jump out of the brooder. Their normal excited self and get active when I take them outside. I haven't noticed any bloody poops but I'll be on the...

My five week olds have been sneezing a bit and I'm pretty sure it's cause of the bedding. I use TSC shavings but is there one that is less dusty? I'm thinking about straw.

Huge storm and brooder box got soaked

We're out of town right now and my brother is watching the chicks. Apparently there was a huge storm that blew through and soaked our cardboard box. He's just leaving them in there but I am terrified of them getting sick. My mom would NEVER let them inside the house so that's an option if...
