Lead Hen Became ill Today: Head-bobbing, Fresh Rotten Egg, Laying Down all day

Checked up on her again today and she doesn't seem to be head-bobbing as much. She is walking around much more and is integrating with the flock more. Before she was trying to stay away from them. She seems much more active now as well. I also noticed she was very quiet when she was ill, and...

Lead Hen Became ill Today: Head-bobbing, Fresh Rotten Egg, Laying Down all day

I will try not to force feed her water again. I just wanted to do it the first time because her crop was so hard that massaging it without any water in her seemed impossible. I let her go sleep with the flock in the coop tonight because I only have one place for them to sleep and she gets very...

Lead Hen Became ill Today: Head-bobbing, Fresh Rotten Egg, Laying Down all day

I just decided to go out and force feed her some water and i messaged her crop for about 10 minutes. The right side of her chest is much larger compared to the left so I'm thinking she has impacted crop. Her breath isn't smelly so I don't think its sour crop. I'll go out and message her crop a...

Lead Hen Became ill Today: Head-bobbing, Fresh Rotten Egg, Laying Down all day

I checked her crop early this morning. Hopefully it was just after the sun rose so hopefully it was early enough that she didn't eat or drink. I watched some videos on how to empty a chickens crop and a lot of them show massaging the crop then turning the chicken over so their crop empties out...

Lead Hen Became ill Today: Head-bobbing, Fresh Rotten Egg, Laying Down all day

I couldn't get a picture of her stool. it washed away in the rain last night. I separated her from the flock and gave her her own food and water so hopefully that helps. I'll keep checking in on her today when I can. I had to look around on the internet a bit to figure out how to check her crop...

Lead Hen Became ill Today: Head-bobbing, Fresh Rotten Egg, Laying Down all day

At the moment, I do not have a lot of information on the chickens condition. I wasn't able to check the chicken out fully before she went to the coop to sleep. I figured it was probably hard enough for her to get to the coop that I shouldn't disturb her. My Lead hen, who also happens to be my...

Hen with Spurs, big comb, and waddles?

Here's a picture of my lead hen! She's incredibly nice and friendly, and the only brave chicken in the group. Shes my absolute favorite And if anyone's curious, here is a better picture of her spurs. They are squishy and rounded, so thankfully they shouldn't be an issue.

Hen with Spurs, big comb, and waddles?

On closer inspection, and watching some videos of trimming rooster Spurs, she has no " nail" or hard covering over her spurs. They are rounded and soft like her toes. Because of this I've decided to leave them alone, but I will keep an eye on them just in case they do develop sharper, harder...

Hen with Spurs, big comb, and waddles?

Thanks so much everyone! I do not have a rooster. I figured I didn't need one since hens lay eggs with or without a rooster. Plus I didn't want to deal with the possibility that some of the eggs might hatch! ( I'm happy with my little flock of 7 at the moment ) I will definitely look into trying...

    Hello!

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I got my first flock of chickens about 4 years ago. i had 6 white chickens ( They were a sexlink breed, can't quite remember the name. ) Now I only have 1 from that flock remaining, and i have 6 new chickens, around a 1-2 years old...

Hen with Spurs, big comb, and waddles?

I have a hen in my flock who, at first, just looked like any other ordinary hen. About a year or two in she started growing spurs. I researched to see if her growing spurs was normal, and it's certainly more rare but it didn't seem to impact anything. However on closer inspection, her comb is...
