Mine arrived today! But there was supposed to be 15 chicks, they sent 10 because there wasn't a good hatch rate. Even though Cackle Hatchery shorted my chick order I'd still recommend them because they are reimbursing me for the 5 that couldn't be sent. My Saipan Jungle Fowl chicks arrived...
Hi Gresh,
I am not sure if you already decided on a hatchery or not seeing how this is an old thread but I just recently purchased some Saipan Jungle Fowl From Cackle Hatchery, People
please do not lecture me about the impurities/infirmities of hatchery stock: I am well aware of them. Mine are...
Actually Rhode Island Whites can have either single combs or rose combs. Single combs can not be used for showing because they are more used for egg and meat production. Rose Combs are the show quality type and are the breed to use for show standards.
The Pale Gray looks like a female to me. .judging by her crown, it's pretty pale and the darker one as you've stated that's crowing is an absolute male! The white spotted one looks female to me and definitely looks to me like a splash Maran. .Maran's have lightly feathered legs. Beautiful birds!:D
Before I posted this thread I had tried posting there but it wouldn't let me? which I thought strange. .so I posted here instead. Thank you for responding to my post I greatly appreciate it.:D
Oh yes, the cochins are female. .NO way would I add a rooster!! The only roosters in my flock are the white sultan and the white crested blue polish lol. .I wouldn't jeopardize my bird's safety. Thank you so much for responding:D
Gorgeous bird, I realize this is an old thread but she's so beautiful. I'm going to have a flock which will consist of Polish: 2 buff laced females, 2 white crested blue females, 1 silver laced, and 1 white crested blue male. White Sultans: 9 Females, and 1 male. Cochins: (2) Female Partridge(...
The picture has a red hue to it but I'd like to say if I went by tail feathers "Male", but his/her crown looks pink. .which throws me off due to the picture's red hue and it makes me think female. .usually males crowns will be a real bright red, I've been able to tell males at young ages. .but...
Hi there my name is Brandi and I have a few questions, hopefully people don't get too angry with my questions.
Question #1: Has anyone crossbred a White Sultan to a polish? If so do you have any pictures? I'm just curious as to what they'd look like.
Question #2: Has anyone crossed a Polish to...
Not sure if this'll help but you could go to your local swap meat (flea Market) and sell the roosters. .as others have stated before you'll sell them but most who'll buy are people whom would want them for the soup pots. A friend of mine wanted to be a breeder and ended up with more males than...
I realize that keeping males separate would keep the lines "pure bred" but I'm just wanting a flock of my own and while it may seem silly but I wasn't really up for breeding just the enjoyment and love for the chickens. I realize that keeping two roosters could pose as a challenge it's one I'm...
Yes, I have plans for a large coop and a large run. I've purchased books from both a catalog and websites, along with step-by-step guides on exactly what to build for the amount of chickens I'll have. A few people have requested if I'd sell fertile hatching eggs in which I'm not opposed to but...
Our neighbors chickens do that too, we live in California well it doesn't really get that cold like in other states but it has been around like 60 degrees at night but we're not in the full swing of winter really either, but I was told that when they do that it's due to them just releasing steam...
I absolutely love the crested breeds, this is my "dream flock" and I have been doing lots and lots of research. The only research I couldn't find is if cochins could be housed with these two breeds due to the fact that these two breeds have vaulted skulls and the bone in the crests can sometimes...
If I may suggest, Black Jersey Giants are pretty amazing I know a gal and she has a few of these and loves them. Her rooster is a great flock guardian especially with the red tailed hawks that are around he wards them off. Also if I may also suggest English Buff Orp. They are allot bigger than...
Hi everyone Hopefully I have posted this in the correct place. .my question is I am expecting some standard White Sultans, Standard Polish, and possibly some standard Partridge Cochins as well. All will be arriving together from the same place if all goes accordingly. I will have 9 White Sultan...
Welcome to chickLou:frowYou are in the right place to meet other chicken people who share the same interests as you do! It's a pleasure to meet you, I'm new as well and there are so many friendly people here who give excellent advice and are extremely helpful. I'm going to be receiving my...
I know this is probably an old thread but I am interested in knowing if I can house Standard Partridge Cochin with Standard Polish and Standard Sultans? I realize that Cochins are a lot more heavier at times, but they will be coming from the same place at the same age. I've always loved the...
Man that Bielefelder cock is HUGE I have never seen one that big, so sad he passed away and I am terribly sorry for your loss. I nearly mistaken him for a cream legbar lol but I realize he didn't have the hair tufts so then understood he wasn't but he is extremely gorgeous none the less.
