I saw another thread on this and the response said that the chickens are being harassed by something, but I thought I'd post my info too and see if there are any other ideas.
I've got 5 chickens, three I've had for 2 1/2 years and 2 I've had for 7 months. They had no problems with the coop or...
Hi :) I have 2 FBCM pullets that hatched the first week of April. The breeder I got them from said that his birds typically start laying at 7 months, which would be November for my girls. Do you think they will start laying in November, or just skip it and wait until the spring?
I've got three 2 year old hens right now and am going to be adding 2 12-week old chicks soon. My plan is to put the 2 12-week olds in a chain link dog run separate from the older ladies for a while, but they're going to need somewhere to sleep. For those of you who add new chicks to your...
I have found that keeping chickens is a lot easier than I thought it would be, and really a lot less maintenance than I thought too. The biggest job was building the chicken coop, and lucky for me my husband did that part :) We do let them out to free range a lot, and that means the coop...
I get eggs at all different times with 4 chickens. Sometimes one will lay an egg really early in the morning, sometimes its in the afternoon and sometimes its almost evening. My kids and I usually check a few times a day. Mine aren't predictable at all.
I have seen on here people putting web cams inside their chicken coops -- that sounds like a fun idea! My husband will surely think I am nuts if I suggest it, but my kids will get a real kick out of it. If you have one in your coop, which one/what kind is it?
(sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, I wasn't sure where it should go)
Does anyone have/know of any chicken apps for iPhone? I thought it would be neat to have something for keeping track of eggs. I did find one called Egg Tracker. I haven't downloaded it yet, its $2.99 and has...
Thank you for your responses! I think the separation/putting new pullets in with an older one would work out well. Our chicken coop is raised off the ground with a run underneath. We wanted to give them more space so we attached a dog run onto the coop run but left the door in between so it...
My favourite hen died last month leaving us with 3 chickens. One is a bantam mille fleur cochin. She isn't much into laying eggs, but she is always happy to sit on the other girls' eggs. The other two are standard Americaunas. All three recently turned 2. I would really like to add...
We're thinking of planting something in big flower pots to put in the run for the chickens to pick through, but what should we plant? I've got all sorts of empty plant pots, I could plant a bunch of stuff and rotate them. Any suggestions?
One of my ameraucanas started squatting a couple of weeks ago -- before that she was my least friendly bird, always ran from me and kept her distance. One day out of the blue she squatted and now she's my best friend! She follows me around, likes to be petted and picked up, and all I have to...
Congrats on your first eggs!
I've been keeping my girls locked in their run to discourage Ginger from hiding eggs in the yard, and yesterday I got an egg on the floor of the coop in front of the nest boxes, so this morning I put ping pong balls in the boxes and got a blue egg in the nest box...
