Our hen got injured 2 weeks ago. I have been crop feeding her for a week now. Her Injuries seem healed except she is now blind in one eye. Will she eventually be able to find the food and reintegration with the flock? Has anyone had a hen with one eye? She had stayed in the coop the whole time...
I have a broody hen on day 17. One egg is all dark with no visible aircell. The other is looking pretty normal with an aircell and chick movement. Any idea on the dark egg? Sorry no picture. She did not like me candling her eggs. Thanks
I have someone buying 17 chicks. They will be 10 days old on pick up day. They have a 10 hour drive to their new home. Any ideas on what I can safely put in their box to keep them warm that doesn't cost too much?
I have a broody hen who will be in her last 3 days starting Friday. I have been gently lifting her off the nest everyday to collect the "extra eggs" she goes right back on the nest. Should I just leave the extra eggs the last 3 days and discard them after hatch?
I have a broody hen with 8 eggs. She is in a favorite nesting box so other hens are "adding" to the nest. I marked the eight eggs with a pencil but they are really hard to quickly read in the dim light. Is there something else that won't harm the eggs that is easier to see?
I want to get my next batch of eggs going as soon as I can after hatching my first batch. Do I have to do the whole clean, let air dry 24hrs and then run for 24hrs before setting the next batch?
I have hatched several batches and I always do as instructed and take the egg turner rack out at lockdown. I have met several people who turn off the turner but leave the rack leave it in to prevent the crazy rolling of the eggs all over the incubator during hatching. I would love your opinion...
I have 5 large breed hens. The largest one ( 8lbs at 7 months old) was lame last month , no bumblefoot and with 4 days of rest in a dog crate she was better for a month. Now she and another hen are slightly lame. Their roost is 3 feet up with a poop shelf. They refuse to use the A frame lower...
Weather got really nice so we have been letting our 4 1/2 week old chicks into their outdoor run. They love it. They are in and out all day long. We herded them in at last light the first night. Last night we let it get dark and had a light in inside so they could find their way in. We found...
I am pretty sure one of my 6 month old pullets has Mareks. She was hatched here but I do not have a closed flock as I introduce and adult hen and rooster 2 years ago. I am hatching eggs this week and bought the vaccine for the day old chicks. Is there any benefit to vaccinating my older flock...
My 5 month old hen had a large pendulous crop 2 days ago. It was malleable and I could feel the pelleted feed in it. I separated her with no food just water and massaged her crop. Next morning she had a firm orange size crop very ventral. After she woke up and drank water her crop became soft...
Any ideas would be helpful. I plan on attaching the 2 cabinets back to back and elevating them off the ground. This will make a 3ft x 3ft coop. Two doors open for easy clean out on the back and other side 1/2 door for exit into an already existing pen. I plan on a slanted roof with vents and...
I have two 16 day old Salmon Favorelles, hatchery stock . One has a good 1inch tail and the other has no tail at all. Does that mean anything as far as gender?
I have three 16 day old chicks and just hatched 9 more today. I plan to move them outside under a mama brooder (homeade brooder that they go under)and put them together in a new area. My question is when would be the best time ? I was thinking waiting until the young ones are a week old. Any...
I only hatched one chick from a batch of shipped eggs. Would it be better to purchase 2 chicks or try to give the lone chick to a broody hen who has only been broody a week? This is genetically a very valuable chick.
I may only have 1 or 2 chicks hatch in my incubator in 5 days. My hen went broody tonight. If I only get one chick can I put it under my hen. If I get 2 or 3 chicks I would prefer to raise them myself as my hen is very protective and I won't be able to touch the chicks. Any advice would be...

I have 2 batches of eggs arriving a day and 1/2 apart. I know to let shipped eggs settle upright for 6-24 hours. My question is since it will be more like 48 hour, do I store them upright in a cool place 55 degrees like I did as I was collecting my own eggs to hatch as a batch or room...
