rhode island red or buff orpington?

I have 2 buffs, 2 rhoadies, a silver lace, an Australorp and a br. Of them all, the buffs are by far the most easy going, gentle, etc. The rhoadies are the instigators in attacking the others - they peck and are just nasty tempered. About to give them away. I would add more buffs.

    Redness of skin

My Rock, Silver Lace and Ostralorp hens began to lose feathers in February. At first I thought it might might be due to moulting, however this has gone on for several months. Their backsides and breasts are very red and dry looking. Occasionally I see one of both of the Rhoadies pecking them...

    Broody hen not giving up.

Hi - try shutting her out of the nest area so she will think about eating and drinking. Feeding 1 and a half week chicks watermelon scraps

I'm thinking they may be a little young for anything other than starter mash. You might want to wait several weeks more before introducing other foods. At three months my girls were given all kinds of fruit and veggie scraps but by then they had graduated to grow-out mash. Good luck.

    Moulting

My barred rock and black australorp have been moulting now for almost three months. The rock has lost all feathers on her behind to the point where it looks like a baboon's butt. No blood, just angry looking skin. How long will this go on? My birds are one year old today - laying down only...

Hello - I have both breeds and they are doing fine in our mountain climate (3400 elevation). Very good layers year round.

    Chicken with broken leg

Hello - I too have an injured hen - not sure if her legs are broken or merely sprained when she flew into the wire yesterday. Did you take your to the vet or splint it yourself? Thanks withca

    Injured chicken

Yesterday my flock was spooked and my silver lace (Laci) flew against the wire and appears to have injured her legs. When walking she will list to one side or the other and almost fall - then sit down to rest. She is eating and drinking but still appears in shock and will go inside the coop to...
