Illegal to Advertise Nest Run Eggs as "Fresh" or "Local"?

Good idea on the educating part. I also give printouts of a Julian calendar so they can see exactly WHEN their store bought eggs were laid.

Just to clarity, I eat the yolks! I was merely stating why some people ask for more albumin, especially if their doctor told them the old news years ago.

Cardiac patients may eat a lot of whites but not so much yolk.

Extremely swollen sinus not responding to antibiotics

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. My hen is 3 years old. And there is no hard bump or pus in there. I live in PA I will try some of your suggestions and hopefully give her some relief. I have a hard time finding a vet that will treat chickens. I really appreciate your advice.

Illegal to Advertise Nest Run Eggs as "Fresh" or "Local"?

When I sell eggs, I explain the system used to date eggs in stores and give them a copy of the Julian calendar. Have a couple old commercial egg cartons on hand to show them where to find the “date packed” and inform them that the “best used by” date is arbitrary and means nothing. Tell them...

You can always give them away for a “suggested donation”. That works here. It takes a bold person to take them without donating.

New mama hen attacked by established chicken

I have a wonderful experienced 3year old Orpington who is raising 7 chicks. She has introduced them to my flock of 8 adult hens and a roo. Everyone was getting along perfectly until the 2 year old hen which is lowest in the pecking order attacked her. Bloody combs and face injuries to both. I...

I squeezed both sides in every direction possible. No pus or discharge at all. No hard or thick spots. I’m sure they are super sore right now.

Extremely swollen sinus not responding to antibiotics

Thank you. I could be wrong, but I don’t think there is anything hard in her sinus cavity. It deflates completely when pressed. It is below her eye. Id hate to put her through all the pressing and poking if there’s nothing there to remove. Do you still think I should try it?

Extremely swollen sinus not responding to antibiotics

Ive been giving her Benadryl as you suggested for 4 days now. It has dried up the bubbles but hasn’t reduced any swelling at all. Should I continue? I’m going to have to start hand feeding her soon. She’s getting enough food from the stationary feeder but can’t compete with the others for...

Extremely swollen sinus not responding to antibiotics

My 3 year old barred rock has had swollen sinuses for over a year. No discharge, sneezing, etc. She has been treated twice with the same antibiotic prescribed by a local large animal vet. We are rural and the local vet will not treat chickens. The large animal vet will, but acknowledges...

    Calling All Orpington Gurus!!

Im no geneticist and have a small mixed flock of breeds. I’ve only had chickens for 2 years and decided to let my buff orp have her way and hatch 6 more chicks. My roo is a beautiful lab orp. I gave her eggs from a silver laced orp, buff orp, barred rock, Easter egger, etc. I now have a...

What age is safe for permethrin dust on chicks?

I have 6 chicks, hatched by a broody Orpington. They are 10 days old and still with Mom in their separate coop area. Mom is losing her head feathers and terribly itchy. May I dust her and their area without harming the chicks?
