When do you decide to integrate?

I wouldn't. I would add the first batch to your flock (if you have existing adult birds) when they are about the same size as your adults. Then do the same with the Marans when they're the same size. IF these are your first birds, put them together when they are all the same size. If you put...

Anyone Interested in a 2017/18 Emu Hatch Along?

No lockdown, no change in humidity. Keep it between 30-35% ... any higher and they can potentially drown in their shell. They need lots of air circulation. Keep all of your vents open. As far as turning goes, some people stop turning, some wait until they crack. It will vary greatly depending...

    Farm name

I was thinking Split Feather Farm. We have chickens and emu. Fun fact, emu are the only bird that have 2 feathers per quill, hence 'split feather'.

    Rooster smashing and eating eggs

I've never tried it, but I've read that you can blow out a chicken egg and fill it with mustard and then when they offender brakes into it to eat it, it turns them off of their bad habit.

I have 3 yearlings that have not been DNA tested yet... tests have been ordered. Anyone who has mature adults, have you noticed any trends with their tail size? Pyxis' Emu Chat Thread

My TSC can't seem to figure this out. I've tried to get them to order for me. Next time you go in, would you find out how much are they charging you per bag? My local feed store charges me $27/bag. Still cheaper than direct from Mazuri, but expensive still.

    Did I ruin my eggs?

Today is day 8. I just moved them to the cabinet yesterday. The incubator I was using got hot spots so I was using a forehead thermometer to check each egg. I would rotate the eggs around to different places in the incubator so that hopefully none were cooked. The humidity was between 40-50%...

    Did I ruin my eggs?

I started 9 emu eggs in a little giant foam incubator. They spent a week in there before my cabinet incubator arrived. The temps and humidity were all over the place. I calculated the desired weight loss per week for each egg based on a 15% total weight loss over 55 days. None of my eggs met the...
