How long do you wait to let the chicks go with the hens? We have some 2 month old chicks. Right now we have them separated. I know they are too small, but at what time do you mix them with the big chicks/hens. We let them out and there was really one chick that goes after them, the other 3 don't...
I now have two hens that are laying eggs. They both seem to found a spot to lay in the coop. One lays in one corner, the other lays in another corner. We put up some beautiful curtains to give them some "privacy" and make it dark, but they still have not gone in there? Do you know what it could...
Who all does it? It’s been 105 here and getting the itch to get 4 more. They would be on back patio locked up in some shade but would they get too hot? Raised some in the garage in April but now my garage is a sauna with this heat. Advice?

My Chickens are not clipped but they seem to of found a new roost. They go up on top of the Chicken run and want to stay up there. If I did not get them down they would probably would stay up there at night. They did well going into the coop and will go in here if I shut the run door. Door is on...
When do you open the nest box? I sealed it off and my chickens are 3 month old. They are still a little ways off, but did not know when I should go ahead and open the nest box. They sleep on the roost, so I don't see them going in there to sleep, but you never know.
Thanks!
Well finally finished the run and coop. Need to hook up water hose and it will have a mister. Tarp was an addition as it has been in the 100s here and cools down the run a bit. They run free in the back yard so they find shade but just incase I lock hem up. Ordered supplies to make an automatic...
Almost done with the coop. Still need to touch up red, and paint trim white/ladder but getting closer. Now I need help where to put my roost. First picture is side view of it. Added a rollaway nest, and another opening so I can get into the nest box from outside.
Picture below is inside...
Have a chick about 4 weeks old and she always seems to be off by her self. Set her down and she went off to corner and laid down and it looks like she is panting like a dog. Is she dieing? Not sure what to do about her.
I have been searching and digging and got some pallets to break apart and put as siding. Would it be ok to put that on the roof too or should I go with the Tin roof? I have water protective plastic on the top, but still afraid it may leak, but at the same time, I am cheap and don't really want...
My 5 year old son likes seeing the baby chicks. We have 4 of them. Well today my wife calls me and turns out my 5 year old woke up early this morning and went to see the chicks. He drowned one of the chicks in the water. He’s torn, I’m torn. Kind of in shock bc I did not think he would do that...
Does nest box need to be completely dark? My nest box is attached to back of coop and i cut boards a little short so it has about a 1/2-1-4 gap. Is that ok or does it need to be all the way closed? I can put chicken wire in it to allow a little vent in the nest box and for protection or does it...
So we have 2-3 week old chicks and my son is 5. We had some rain and he found some worms. He wanted to give it to the chicks. My wife said ok, well turns out they loved it. They would take a little worm and run around with it. The other chicks chased them in the brooder and almost like tag...
I don’t know if they gave us a Guinea or an Easter Egger. They told us it was an Easter Egger but got me worried when I called and they said they only had Guineas left. It’s brown one. Thoughts?
we got 2 chicks 2-3 weeks old but we are going to get 2 more likely they will be a couple of days old. How hard willl it be to add them to the other two chicks. Will they fit in since they are not a lot older. I've already started noticing the pecking on one chick that is pretty dominate.
Thanks
Got our first baby chicks today. EE on left is Rainbow & SL on right is Sunshine. 5 year old chose Rainbow because it lays colored eggs We will get a Red Hen and Australorp Tuesday when they get in. Wish us luck!
I did not factor into the height entry very well and the entry will be about 10" when it is raised to allow a roll away next box. Is that too small of a box if the rest of the box is 12-14'? It is just the first entry? I can cut some of it off to allow 12" but it would really be a pain! If 10"...
Well am still working on the coop, but my son has been nagging me about getting chicks, he is 5. We went and saw them one day and now he ask every day. So we have a countdown for Saturday to go get 4 chicks. He is excited. We will go to Tractor Supply to get the chicks. I really wan an Easter...
After the chicks get old enough to go into the coop for the night. Do you leave food and water in the coop all night with them, or do you just close them up and they can get their water and food in the morning/all day when they are out in the run?
