Posted too quick! Bator is at 101.4. Humidity is naturally at 42 or so and I keep it about 64 during lockdown. Im sure is just mother nature being cruel but wanted to ck.
So spring and now into summer I have been learning, trial-and-error lots of it about hatching. I have had 8 successful hatches and have 7 healthy happy baby chicks. I lost one due to my stupidity. My issue is that I have two frizzle Bantam hens and I have not gotten any eggs to hatch. The 1st...
My ladies wont eat pellets unless theyre starving. I tried t tough it out once and it took them three days for what was ususlly gone in onee. Just a little heads up in case they don't seem intrested in the pellets. You may need to use a crumble instead.
I mixed it with my little ones feed from day one. On my older ladies i only offer it when theres snow as they dont forage at all. During the summer they bearly even eat their crumble
I had a haw issue last fall. Lost 13 over a few months. Mine are free range but go int the barn at night. The hawk actually ripped off things I had put up to block the wires. Like yours mine didnt venture out past the barn for quite a while. They do come back once they have found an easy...
The hen is a frizzle the roo is a bantam brahma, i think. I have another roo but he ignores or picks on the 2 little frizzles and the lower roo took them as his. Their eggs are quite smaller than the others so I assumed they are the frizzles. All of mine are free range and share boxes but Im...
So, I started with three frizzle bantam eggs and only one is still alive. This is my first time hatching and wow its been a lot of ups downs and learning by failing. I used a homemade incubator and after losing a few early on I finally got things sorted out. That being said, temp fluctuations...
So we went on the town and had a neighbor watch the animals, and they didn't pick up eggs. So I had to hens that were being very broody. I pulled all the eggs checked them all and I had about 7 that were showing signs of life inside. Now it's been another week and it's easy to tell that some had...
Thanks for the input and I am working on her own spot. Its the new roo thats causingnissue, i believe. She has lived with these same chickens and another roo with no issues til now. The frizzle roo was taken by a hawk in fall and now that the polish roo is lead im seeing issues. I dont have...
OK, settle in for a story. I have had chickens on my property for 5 years. I have added new chicks each year. Due to predators, life and other things I am at 14 chickens and 2 rooster's right now. Having 2 roosters is another story but they have split the flock up and everybody gets along...
New layers will lay all sorts of interesting eggs. Small big no shell rubbery shell and of course double and triple yolkers. I dont know a lot about how to help if its more than that but it looks like you have gotten a lot of great info. Hope all works out.
I understand that there are conditions that need to be met but when a hen sits the eggs doesnt the humidity and temperature fluctuate? I know my ladies get up to eat drink and just stretch their legs. This is even during 30 degree weather and her success rate was 90%. Your answer just seemed...
Quick story...I got 5 chicks from a lady in an emergency last year. Her well went out and she lived in the middle of nowhere wirh no way to take care of all of her animals. I said I would take the chicks off her hands for her. They were supposed to be Brahmas and Polish cresteds. They were also...
We have freezing temps into may here so heat is a must. I have a portable dog pen I have made chixk proof and have straw on the floor and a heat lamp over one section they can use it if they need. I love this because of the portability. I can move it outside on warm days and they can root...
