How to feed pullets and older birds

I have 2 older hens and have added in several pullets to the flock. I was feeding them separately (layer feed for big gals and medicated chick starter for the new gals) but recently read I could feed unmedicated chick feed to ALL the birds as long as I offered oyster shell for the older gals...

    Is this a rooster?

Bought this CoCo Maran a few weeks ago. I figure it’s about 6 weeks old. Compared to others I bought at that same time, the comb is atleast twice the size and it’s turning red already. I’ve never had a rooster and can’t keep it if it is.Thanks a bunch.

    Adding Adults to flock...should I?

I absolutely won’t argue with your opinion. I do wonder why the coop I have says up to 8 chickens. I always thought that was a high number. I started with 4 and after about a year and a half there was a behavior problem that prompted me to get rid of the aggressor. I feel my run is fairly big?

    Adding Adults to flock...should I?

I’m in West Texas. The temps range from 50’s -high 60’s most of the time. It does get into freezing temps at night. My coop is smallish. I think 3-4 birds would roost comfortably but no more than that. It would be easy to add another roosting bar and laying box. I’d say the sleeping area...

    Adding Adults to flock...should I?

My look don’t touch would be a huge dog crate sitting outside the run. It’s what I have done to separate a broody butt from the flock in the past, however, this time it would be 3-4 chickens instead of 1. I figured it would be ok for a few weeks. It’s not ideal in my opinion.

    Adding Adults to flock...should I?

Hello, my flock is now down to 2 hens. My plan was to purchase some chicks this Spring; however, our country vet recently contacted us about a local FFA program giving away young laying hens. My run is probably 10x15 and I have the set up to safely introduce maybe 3-4 new chickens. My current...

    Hen pecking frustration!!!!

Thank you. To be honest, it just registered with me when writing this thread that it has intensified since the free range has become more limited. I still try to let the girls out each day for around an hour. I have heard about providing a hiding place, but no, I don’t really have anything...

    Hen pecking frustration!!!!

The part of their coop where they sleep is pretty small. They all sleep on the same roosting bar. They all snuggle up together on it. There is probably enough room for another 2-3 birds on the bar, but that’s it. They are able to leave the coop as soon as they wish in the morning. The feed...

    Hen pecking frustration!!!!

My flock of 4 hens is 1 year old. Everything has been going beautifully until recently. I have been noticing that all but 1 of my hens are missing most of their feathers at the base of their tails, under their wings, and some have bare behinds! Thankfully there hasn’t been any blood. I have...
