Pick up only in VT. Please do not hit BIN, PM me. I have 3 hens and one tom. All are just over a year old. Hens are laying now. I am done hatching for the year.
I have had a terrible time this year with humidity in my Hovabators. When the rh in the room is 40% I find I need to only half fill the middle trough to get to 65% and that is where I hatch. By the morning when outside temps have dropped the room humidity decreases and so does the rh in the...
I have received 3 different shipments in foam. One seller sent 24 eggs for the price on 12. I have 16 chicks. Another set 12 eggs, only 4 made it to lockdown, the final shipment was 5 eggs, I had zero develop. All had blood rings at 7 days. I do not think I have much success with the foam. The...
I received eggs in VT shipped from Florida 24 days ago. They were perfectly packaged in bubble wrap. I set them in cartons to let them settle prior to setting in the bator. I noticed right away they were "damp". Long story short, 9 out of 12 hatched a couple days ago. I think it was the temp...
I hatched 11 out of 12 last month. They are beautiful chicks! Amy is great to deal with and I am looking forward to ordering more eggs from her as soon as the bators are empty.
I have hatched 22 out of 24 shipped eggs from BYC auctions in the past month. This is the result of two auctions. I was thrilled with those results. On the down side, last month I got 1 chick out of 12 eggs. Only 4 made it to lockdown. All the eggs were packages beautifully. You just never know...
I was really woried about trying it the first time. Another BYC'er advised me it might be helpful when your humidity had been too high day 1-18. I had 11 out of 12 shipped eggs hatch in the carton. I don't know if it made a difference with the humidity issue but it did not hurt and no mess! I am...
It has been experience hatching turkeys that when they create a large round hole, rather than actually turning and zipping they can't turn. Good luck, I would help at this point.
I have the Advance EX and I don't believe it has an auto stop turn feature. My directions just say to unplug and remove from cradle on day 18. Once the screws holding the rods that hold the turner together loosened and it turned too far and stoped. I just plugged it back in and off it went. Have...
I would not open the bator. This is the voice of experience after having done so many times only to have to deal with shrink wrapped chicks. 54% is ok for a bit I think, If you are in a northern climate this AM the air is very dry and humidity will not recover quickly enough.
My last two hatches have been a day early with no problems. If your temps are a bit high that could be why they are a bit early. I hope you return to a bator full of fuzzy butts!
I think I will buy a scale. Since my incubator is full again I guess I will have to wait until a set a new batch to start weighing or would it be beneficial now? Some have been set only a week. I of course have no starting weight from which to gauge the weight loss. Quite distressing...
It ran at 40-50%. I am calibrating the digital hygrometer now. I calibrated a couple months ago and it was ok. I have never had this problem before and am perplexed. I had a poult on my last hatch that looked "fat" and laid on its back and never stood. Had to cull. Now the one that did hatch...
My eggs pipped and then they began oozing this disgusting yellowish liquid. One poult never made it out. The other did but looks all gooey and sticky. I have never had a problem like this before. My humidity was between 60-70% on a digital hygrometer. Very disappointing.
I had a poor hatch with my Bourbon Reds last time so I put another thermometer/digital hygrometer in. They are identical in make and model but they show a 10% difference in humidity. Temps are both the same. What do other people use for hygrometers in these incubators? I wasn't sure how to get a...
My Bourbon Reds started laying months ago so I decided to incubate early this year. I have many more blood rings at day 7-10 than usual. I am wondering if it is because it is so cold here the eggs are very chilled before I collect them or if it might be because they tend to be a bit more dirty...
I have 2 Hovabator 1588's. They can be cleaned well with a bit of soap and water/bleach. The trays and screen are what really gets nasty and they are plastic and metal so they go right in the sink. Plus, you can hatch up to 40 eggs or just a few if that's what you want. Less eggs, easier clean up.
