What Feed Do I Need To Give To My Flock In Winter?

I was just wondering now that the temps are dropping very rapidly, and it has been below at the freezing mark where I live, is there a different kind of chicken feed I need to be giving my birds? They have been given Purina Layena crumbles for the last six months. Thanks for any feedback.

The Flock Has Grown (Precious Babies)

Thank you for the heads up. I will be taking her back to Tractor Supply to double check because I asked specifically for a Barred Rock pullet, but I'm too new at this to know if they gave me the right one or not, and I just assumed they would know since they are selling them.

The Flock Has Grown (Precious Babies)

Thank you so much for the reply, as I don't know enough about chickens yet to know if I was given what I wanted. I googled the names of those you stated above, and the two bantams I received (the first two pictures) definitely look like what I found on google, and they do both of have...

The Flock Has Grown (Precious Babies)

That one is actually one of the bantams, and has fur/feathers on it's legs and feet. The first two single pictures are both supposed to be bantams, and came out of the bantam tub. The third one is the Rhode Island Red, and the last one is supposed to be the Barred Rock. I'm a little concerned...

The Flock Has Grown (Precious Babies)

Thank you. I will have to take her back and ask. The last single one pictured is supposed to be the barred rock, and they had a whole tub of them, so I will go back tomorrow and see.

The Flock Has Grown (Precious Babies)

So after our very first ever hen has started laying cute little bantam eggs that we discovered last Saturday, my daughters and I have had "the itch" to get new baby chicks. Well tonight we broke down, and purchased four new baby chicks from our local Tractor Supply. We got two more bantams, one...

Beginner Chicken Mom - Southaven, MS

Hello. I just came across this forum, and thought I would introduce myself since I am a very new chicken mom. I live in Southaven Mississippi with my two daughters ages 16 and 12. My parents gave my girls some baby chicks for Easter this past Spring that they purchased from Tractor Supply...

    My Bantam Is Laying Eggs

We were wondering what kind if bantams ours were. They were purchased from Tractor Supply, but they just said they were bantams, and not a specific breed. I will upload pics with this post so you can see what they look like now. Our female is very much like how you described your Midge. I...

    My Bantam Is Laying Eggs

Thank you. I love hard boiled eggs as a snack, and never would've thought of that with these eggs since they are so small, but they would make the perfect little bite size snack!:hmm

    My Bantam Is Laying Eggs

Thank you so much. My daughters and I are so excited, and we've actually been a little giddy about this whole thing. These are our very first chickens, which were given to them back at Easter, and we honestly didn't know how our chicken raising skills would be. They have lasted this long...

    My Bantam Is Laying Eggs

Thanks. I gathered them up, and brought them inside to put in the fridge. I will check them everyday for a few days. She laid another egg today, but this time in her coop, so I guess she didn't take to kindly to me stealing her pile of eggs, lol.

    My Bantam Is Laying Eggs

This morning I couldn't find my female bantam anywhere, and the male was crowing like crazy. A few hours went by, and she was still nowhere to be found. I honestly thought she flew away, or into neighbors yard, and was killed by a dog, but later this afternoon I heard her familiar clucking...

New chicken mom. My parents gave my 2 girls chicks for Easter & I've kept them alive so far!

Thank you. After looking at the images you attached, I'm pretty sure mine are Cornish Cross. I'm attaching three more pictures for you to see. Hopefully these will come through, and you will be able to see them.

Not sure. They came from Tractor Supply. They are huge though, so I assume they are cornish cross.

New chicken mom. My parents gave my 2 girls chicks for Easter & I've kept them alive so far!

Yes they are kind of addicting. My oldest daughter and I both said we were surprised at how much we were already attached to them, and want more.

New chicken mom. My parents gave my 2 girls chicks for Easter & I've kept them alive so far!

Thank you. I need all the feedback and help I can get. I got the sad news about the cornish hens yesterday that they would have to be culled, and my girls were so upset because they have really become attached to these little guys. So that's our first lesson that will end not so good I guess...
