    Slipping babies under broody?

I have 11 eggs in the incubator scheduled to hatch on Sunday, and two hens have decided to go broody in the last week. I am thinking about slipping the babies under them once they are hatched. I've had hens hatch before but never tried to give them basis that aren't actually theirs. So two...

    New to hen hatching eggs

I bought some Seramas on Sunday. Two of the hens are broody and came with a clutch of 15 eggs. I put the 5 most developed in the incubator in case the move broke the broody, but they are still sitting on the 10 remaining eggs. I just candled them and all 15 eggs are showing development. The ones...

    Mystery bantam chicks

I got these tiny babies from a tub marked silkies at Rural King yesterday. They obviously are not silkies but some other kinds of bantam. Think the black one is possibly cochin but no idea on the others. Thoughts? TIA!!!!

    Hen not standing or walking

I have an approximately 8 month old Golden Comet hen who is unable to walk or stand She was fine at last check yesterday but when I went out to feed this morning she was standing in the run and just fell over when she went to run to the meal worms with the others. I tried standing her up a...

    Pecking order?

Is it possible to have no clear pecking order in a small flock (1 bantam roo and 4 full size hens all about 13-14 weeks)? No one really seems to be top bird yet. My roo is the biggest scared cat of them all, tho! :lau:lau

    Was I just courted?

We have the ducks and chickens in separate pens and I always feed the ducks first. They are never interested in getting loving so I usually only spend a few minutes with them then go spend time with the chickens. I noticed one of the male Pekins was pacing at their gate so I went back to their...

    All roos I'm afraid.....

My silkie cochin mix chicks are now 3 weeks old and I'm pretty sure they are all roos. Not the outcome I had hoped for as I already have one bantam roo with 4 full size hens

Thinking about rehoming in Central WV

Don't get me wrong, I love my ducks but they are way messier and dirtier than I expected and I am afraid they will have a substandard life because I won't be able to keep up. I have 3 drakes (about 3.5 months old) and 3 girls (about 2.5 months old but one is still getting feathers so maybe not...

    Ok to feed?

I gave the ducks and chickens the last of the salad mix I had this morning, and hadn't planned on going to the store today so scrounging the freezer. I found these. Is there anything in them that I should pick out before giving to the group? Thanks! It's not hot today, so I will let it thaw out...

    Duck run question

Hoping to be setting up a duck house/run for our 6 ducks this weekend. The run will be another 10x10 dog kennel like we are now using for a chicken run (the three drakes are currently housed with the chickens, the girls were just purchased over the weekend and are still separated), reinforced...

    Silkie/cochin mix

Wasn't sure where else to put this, but I got these beautiful babies at an animal swap that I stumbled upon in the TS parking lot yesterday. Sold as silkie/cochin mix. Does anyone else have this mix, and pics they could share of their adults? Thanks !! !!

    Reintroducing ducks and chicks?

I have 5 chicks and 3 ducklings that are currently in the same brooder, and they are quickly running out of room because the ducks are getting big. The weather is not going to cooperate with getting the coop done this weekend as I had hoped, so I am going to have to buy another tote to separate...
