Can I feed egg shells to my chickens?

Wow! Thanks everyone for the very good advice! I have a scrap bucket and I think I'll try throwing them in there uncrushed and see what happens. If that doesn't work I'll try the drying and crushing method....I'm all about doing what's easiest. I cook eggs for us a few times a week and easily go...

Can I feed egg shells to my chickens?

Ok, so I think I read somewhere that you can feed your chickens back their egg shells to keep that calcium in their diet... I would just like to know how to do that. I'm a little unsure as to if that'll make them want to eat their unharvested eggs though. I am particularly interested in how many...

My chickens won't go into their coop at night!

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. I guess I just thought they'd automatically want to be in the nice warm roost. Here's another question though. I keep their feed and water under the coop, so when they get put up all night they have nothing to do but sleep. Is that ok? Getting them out to...

My chickens won't go into their coop at night!

Well they've been in there over a week now.... you think their still getting used to it? I did try throwing treats in there, no luck. My chickens have a habit of running from me still. I've handled them alot and they still won't come to me. They come when I have worms but snatch and run. I even...

My chickens won't go into their coop at night!

Ok, tell me... is it normal for my chickens (new to their chicken tractor and only about 5-6 wks old) to roost for the night outside and under the coop section of the chicken tractor? Every night I go at sundown to put them up for the night and there they are half asleep roosting outside side by...

    Chickens are so much fun!

Ok, so I just moved my pullets/cockerels to their new chicken tractor (made by hubby and oh so adorable)! I stayed outside for hours just watching and petting! They are so fun to watch! I loved watching their first experience w/grass, worms, and well the whole enclosed yard of theirs. Who knew...

My 3wk old has injured wing.

I just noticed last night that my 3wk old RIR pullet is not using her left wing. It appears normal but when she flaps, only the right one is lifted. Should I just keep an eye on it for a while? Could she just have bruised it or tweeked it? Not sure what to do. Any suggestions would be helpful...
