    Abnormally small duckling

We picked up 4 ducklings April 21st. This is what they look like today a little over a month later The tiny one is Delta. She really doesn't have feathers to speak of, just baby fluff. She is most definitely growing, but extremely slowly. Has anyone encountered this?

    Goose sitting duck egg

I have a broody goose (our Buff). One of our ducks laid an egg in her nest. Right now she is sitting on 3 goose eggs, and 1 duck egg. She almost never leaves that nest, so whoever laid that egg had a limited amount of time to do it. Will there be problems with our goose hatching a duck egg...

    Indian Runner Duck Association

This book just arrived today. Our second eldest daughter is doing a 4H presentation on Indian Runners, so I ordered it for her research. Is anyone a member of the Indian Runner Duck Association?

    Sebastopol White Chinese Cross

Has anyone seen a Sebastopol-White Chinese Cross?

    Grazing Frame

Has anyone tried grazing frames in their bird yards? Our ducks/geese just destroy anything and everything that grows in their yard. I'm thinking about buying some grass (possibly sod?) and putting grazing frames over it as protection.

Trying to anticipate issues before they occur

We have a little 5 acre parcel. It's mostly woodland, but it is being thinned presently so I'm going to have more land to work with soon. We are going to re-configure our bird set-up once all logging is done, and I want to anticipate any issues that could arise. We have 33 ducks. Right now that...

Determining healthy weight for an Indian Runner

I know that Runners are skinny little things. I'm just trying to have a healthy "feel" gauge of a healthy weight range. One of our runner drakes is battling a bit of wet feather. I think the geese aren't letting him bathe :( We are doing what we normally do for ducks with any issue like bumble...

    4H Ducks On Parade

Let me preface upfront that I didn’t take any photos. Taking 8 kids to a parade was challenging, and taking photos wasn’t something I was able to focus on. Last night our kids and I participated in our local 4H march in the holiday parade. They took two of our fawn and white runners, and one of...

Marbled Teal in the Olympia WA area

There has been a post on CL for months from a person in the Olympia WA area trying to sell their marbled teal. If you know anyone that wants them, please pass along the information. I imagine it’s possible people in the PNW might be interested, and didn’t want to spam the OR, WA, and ID pages...

    Egg Cartons/Trays

The Egg Carton Store has clear plastic trifold cartons, I ordered 35 of those today. What I really wanted to get, but the shipping was astronomical (almost 2/3 the price of the trays alone) was their turkey/duck vented egg trays. Has anyone used those before? Right this moment we're getting...

    American Buff versus Buff Toulouse

What is the difference between a Buff Toulouse and an American Buff? They look so similar in photos. I have an American Buff gander, and I'd like to get him a lady. I have regular Toulouse, and the coloring is quite obviously different. I've found people selling "geese" that are buff in...

    African versus Brown Chinese

We bought three geese this spring. Two turned out to be Toulouse, one is either Brown Chinese or African, I really can't tell what it is. Lucy is definitely more petite than the two Toulouse. Lucy is smaller than the two White Chinese we we have that are 6 weeks younger too. How can I know if...

    Eggs!

We have 22 female ducks. I planned this because I was hoping for at least a dozen eggs on average a day. As of today we’re getting 4 eggs a day!!! I’m so incredibly excited. Once we reach 1 dozen a day, I can fulfill my vision of a big family breakfast with eggs and oatmeal for everyone. I’d...

    7 White Layer WA state

I have 7 spent or near spent White Layers to sell. My best guess is they’re about 4 years old. They would be a an excellent addition to a flock with a poor m/f ratio of you don’t care to much about eggs. I’m just south of the Skagit County border. I’m capable of bringing them to you within...

    Sugardine

One of our female Pekin was waddling a bit more than usual. I bought her from a guy that said she’d had foot problems in the past. Everyone else looks great, so I think it’s an isolated case. They have callouses, but they look pink but dirty. The girl in question has darker and crustier looking...

    Pointier egg

The shell seems as hard as normal, but this egg is pointier than normal. Is this a variation of norm, or point to some sort of issue?

I can’t believe the difference (death mentioned)

The three Pekin drakes were absolutely terrorizing every bird in the yard. They were going from bird to bird, pinning them down and raping them constantly. It didn’t matter if the victim was male, female, duck, or goose. They were after absolutely everyone, and when I put them in drake jail they...

    Runner Ducks from herding

Last week I realized that one of my runners wasn’t the female it was supposed to be when I saw the drake feather. I found a woman on Craigslist that was selling five 2 mths Runner ducks. She had bought them to practice herding with her collie, but the dog just kept rolling in the poo and found...

    Duck dabbling a permethrin

We have a lot of noseeums on our property. In an effort to reduce their numbers I’m planning to try dusting the yard with permethrin. What should I do regarding my ducks need to dabble since the ground would have permethrin on it?
