When they are little, i read to take off clumped poop so it doesn't back up...do you think that is not the same for adults?

I noticed a large amount of dried/wed poop on my hens behind. Tonight i tried to pull it off but it is stuck fast. I didn't want to get her all wet soaking it because it's in the 20's and 30's here. Any ideas? Thanks! ~Heather

I had mine in a yard but wanted to free range them. They were great layers in their coop. A couple of weeks after free ranging, they started laying in the woods. I have been unable to find their major stash. We did find a small stash and weren't sure how old they were. Would you eat the eggs...
