    Rats?

Thank you, ive heard of that trap but never heard of any success. Ive looked around and see no signs of rats and it looked like a cat dragged it over there. But I forgot about how many diseases there are in rats and mice. None live in the coop and it the one time i saw it happen was in their run.

    Rats?

This morning I was greeted by a large dead rat carcus. Should I be worried about rats and my chickens? I've seen them kill mice before and they took care of a couple mice all on their own just killed them and left them for me to take care of. I'm not worried about mice but rats are different...

    Winterizing

Yes, that is my coop at least where we got the inspiration for the design. I'll have some pictures tommorow. This weekend we are putting up a tarp on the east side of the run thats where the blunt of the wind comes from to cut down on direct drafts of the coop, were also buying straw bales. At...

    Winterizing

My coop is the "tangled nest" the coop is elevated about 2 1/2' feet off the ground and there is quarter inch hardwire mesh under it. There's a 1x1' hole in the middle of the coop. Out side i have a decent size run. I keep the water in the coop. I don't know how to let them out and keep them...

    Movable pen

Something like that would be awesome! How much did it cost to build that i have a couple scraps of chicken wire too so it might just be enough. I think the only predators around would be a hawk during the day that would be the only time theyre in there. my dogs would go crazy if anything managed...

    Movable pen

My parents don't want my chickens free ranging due to a corn field behind our house and our neighbors gardens. So i was looking into building a movable pen for them to go into during the day and put them into the coop at night and do a deep litter in their perm run for winter and when I cant let...

I think you should pick him up and pet him! I do it to my rooster all the time. He is a good rooster by the sounds of it.

    Hardware cloth vs Chicken wire

Hardware cloth is just stronger it is welded together. and has less holes depending on how you buy it, bigger holes, cheaper. I recommend just buying 2x4 garden wire. It has big holes and a raccoon can reach through and most likely not chew through, but its stronger than chicken wire and more...

    Bedding in the run

I looked in to those, there really expensive, unless people know cheaper ones. I know about clipping their wings. That wouldn't be a problem.

    Bedding in the run

I have a pretty small run and my chickens can not free range (my dad does not approve) and I don't know if they'd run into the road or the neighbors yard and stuff like that, but everything in their run is dead, nothing within range of their necks is dead. I put wood chips in there too, they...

    How much grit?

You've got 1 rooster and 1 hen woah! Thats not good for either of them. How many chickens can your coop hold? If it can hold 3-4 more, buy some adult birds or atleast around the same age as yours. If you put it in their feed, they'll eat around it. They only eat as much as they need atleast in my...
